When everything I want to do just works with a proper mainstream OS on Linux, then I’ll switch. For now I’ll continue with the ballache that is windows
This-Astronaut246
Thinking about SteamOS. It’s linux-based and user friendly. Might switch over next time I upgrade my PC.

Real maturity is understanding both windows and linux are shit for different reasons
Linux is shit for gaming
Windows is shit for everything besides gaming
Source, I use linux and win 10

I am going to get downvoted but you know what, Windows is just fine for the average person.
Learning (let alone installing) a new OS is a burden that the average person would happily avoid.
Would you learn a foreign language so that you can talk to locals in your 10 days vacation next year? Some yes, but most people won’t

I tried using Linux when I got my steam deck. Because of my lack of experience with desktop mode, I posted a few queries to Reddit. The answer?
“Maybe Linux isn’t for you.”
They want people to use it, intuitively I guess.

linux is great for gaming unless you play multiplayer games or VR games with the quest. however I can’t fully recommend it because software support isn’t there enough. Davichi resolve has a native linux version but its awful, and may god save you if you rely on adobe software. Some things like FL Studio run fine in wine, but for tons of applications you have to be ready to learn a new application (if one exists).

Depends on the distro. I’ve been using Zorin, and it’s way user to use than Windows

If you ask about Linux on a non Linux sub they will say: “just use windows”

I fucking love Linux. People need to stop doing this. It makes it less attractive and we need it to start at least threatening to overtake those two lazy, creepy, bums: Microsoft and Apple.

I’ve been using Linux Mint for over a year now, which is currently the advertised “easiest from Windows” distro. And I see why they say that. I think the first month I had some learning curve. Not a big one, not an annoying one. If you can manage mods in FFXIV, you can do Linux.
But here’s the big thing: I traded those daily micro-annoyances with Windows that add up and grate on you for that one month of learning. And now I have zero micro-annoyances. Every game I want to play works on it. Some even have performance improvements because it’s a leaner system with fewer background activities.

if anyone wants to show me SOLIDWORKS (or some other cad software that supports parasolid) working on Linux/wine then I’ll give it a shot

so… my experience with linux so far:
mint – ventoy couldn’t boot it, arrow keys don’t work, ui is laggy
manjaro – nothing fucking works and i can’t change settings
arch – surprisingly smooth but bluetooth didn’t work out of the box (no biggie, just a 1 line in terminal), however plasma works horrible and gnome is too similar to an ipad
ubuntu – it’s alright but i wasn’t able to run any game other than half life 1 in unstable 30fps (system said that i had all the drivers)
at this point i’d rather stay on win11 and just use debloating tools

Well, I’m a developer so I defaulted on using linux for like 10 years now, currently using CachyOS and I think it’s beginner friendly enough and has good gaming performance
Hell, just think about the hoofs we all went thru as kids to play some cracked games on windows XP or windows 7, nobody complains about them being unfriendly lol. Even dumbass code-monkey like me can use Linux, what stopping you?

They say it because, without users Linux can’t get more software support, companies support off market share, Linux is lacking in that alot, so most companies won’t support linux

It’s funny how SpongeBob really has a lot of fun in that episode, much like people who use Linux.

[Linux Mint](https://www.linuxmint.com/) is the best Linux distro. It’s user-friendly and works out of the box. It will work for 99.9% of people for normal computer things. Don’t listen to the Linux bros saying you gotta research every distro in existence to see what will work for you.

Windows is fine, even for technical users. I’m a dev, I went through many distros, especially when I was a kid / teenager, and was funny to deal with these boot, kernel panic or cmake issues when compiling software bc you learn a lot, but at the end of the day you want to be productive. So, rn I have W11 as main OS and some distros running through WSL to come back to the old days.

As a Linux user, even i can say they’re the worst.
I personally recommend Linux to people willing to try it but without being annoying.
At the end of the day, use whatever OS you want.

I tried rolling dual booting Linux, but it was just too annoying switching to Windows whenever I wanted to play a multiplayer game.

I’ve already converted over a few pcs to linux.. .. Then I realize its just a garage pc, and converted it over to ChromeOS flex. I just use it for how tos and youtube videos.
I get free computers from work and this one still had a Core i6 and 64GB of ram.. but the cpu is not supported by win11.

those are usually teens. In all seriousness, being a Linux user myself, if someone asks me if they should move to Linux, and they use their PC mainly for video games my answer will be most of the times NO. Stay in Windows.
