    >Writing on Instagram on Friday, Kelly said Nintendo informed her this week of its decision to recast the roles of Peach and Toad, who she had also voiced for many years.

    >“Thank you for so many years of friendship and joy. I’m sad that it’s over, I truly would have wanted to voice Peach and Toad forever. Nintendo let me know yesterday that they decided to recast these roles,” she wrote.

    >“I’m grateful that I got to do these voices for so many years. Peach and Toad are such strong and beautiful characters that I pray they live forever no matter who voices them. So much love.”

    > In August 2023, Nintendo announced that Charles Martinet – who had voiced Mario for over 25 years – would be stepping down from voice acting duties and instead take on a new Mario Ambassador role.

  2. Wow. I don’t even particularly like Mario games, but firing someone who worked for your company and was as integral in your success as a company as the VA for Princess fucking Peach is wild.

I really hope that this us the straw that breaks the camels back.

  3. Feels like ever since the Mario Movie they’ve been very invested in redesigning the world of Mario. DK got a redesign, Mario got recast (admittedly Charles *was* getting fairly old), and now Peach is recast.

Rosalina also sounds… Different. I know it’s the same voice actor, but they’re definitely asking something different of her in the booth.

What they’ve done is pretty shitty.

That being said, I’ve always disliked Peach’s voice. I wonder if whomever they casted instead will be less grating for me.

  5. Peach has been voiced by 7 different voice actresses in Japanese and 6 in English, not mention all the other voice actresses in all the other languages.

She is just one American actress of many.

I’d imagine the strike that’s going on plays a role in the slow notice. Between CM retiring as Mario and the success of the movie, Nintendo is probably tuning the Mario canon a bit. I doubt Mario will sound like Chris Pratt but changing Toad from raspy screechy Toad to Just-A-Guy Toad isn’t far out there.

  7. It’s probably cheaper to hire somebody new and they know their fans don’t really care

  8. Surely she knew when a new game was coming out and they never called her in to record lines.

Nintendo: we have no loyalty to our fans, why would we have any for the people that work with us?

Doesn’t even matter about who voices the Mario characters and the Mario characters barely even talk and Rosalina has 3 different voice actors and it doesn’t really matter because again the Mario characters barely even talk and the dialogue isn’t that important in Mario games and all of the dialogue in Mario games are on the text boxes

Such a shame, she did a great job

Nintendo should treat the VAs better imo

Could be totally wrong but after a series of VA ” strikes ” lasting over a year by American VA against Chinese games due to sag afra other countries not based in America have/are currently shifting away from American VA.
