HP and Intel left me stranded with no way to reinstall Windows on my HP All-in-One PC. The issue? A missing VMD storage driver.

Despite contacting both companies and raising public tickets, nothing was resolved. No support. No working download. No solution.

So I did it myself — extracted the right driver, built a custom ISO, restored my system, and then launched a satirical protest campaign.

13 days without support. Still no public driver. Tech giants really need to do better.

What’s the issue, can you elaborate on it ??

Why would they want to do better? Its just extra cost that wont bring any more profit

I’ve never posted here before, just came out of the deafening silence from those HQs at Palo Alto and Folsom. Honestly, I’m blown away by the response. I thought maybe a few people would see it, not thousands.

Thank you to everyone who’s read, upvoted, commented, or just nodded in quiet agreement. I was just trying to make some noise after 13 days of nothing from HP and Intel… and now it feels like people are actually hearing it. That means more than you know!

Just to explain what’s going on if you’ve never worked for a tech giant.

Nigel the old boy and only person in the company who updated the driver page was made redundant last spring so now it’s no ones job and no one knows how to do it. It should be simple but it isn’t because this part of the website was designed in 1993 and hasn’t been properly updated since it’s a mess of spaghetti code and work around to keep the creaking old ship barely afloat. They tried to modernise it when moving it to the cloud but that required funding and no one in the business was willing to pay for the development time instead choosing to spend 1000 times as much on a chat bot that doesn’t work. So instead it was just lifted and shifted into the cloud in a virtual environment that emulates a server from 1993.

The support guys on chat are paid 50p and hour and expected to complete support tickets in under a minute or they are on performance review they don’t care and even if they did there is no mechanism in place to allow them to offer what you need.

In all seriousness though if you want any chance they actually resolve it Write an email (or better yet an old fashioned letter) to the ceo, they won’t read it but they will have a team of people who do who are actually empowered to fix things that are wrong. It still won’t be quick but it might actually get done.

  6. Yes another reason I do my best not to buy proprietary crap. I am shit sure they went out of their way for you to actually need that driver.

I had to fix a similar (possibly the same) problem with my friend’s new install of win11.

The version of windows *that he bought with actual money* didn’t work lol, so I had make a new boot usb and add the drivers (which had to be extracted by running the install program with launch params with cli or shortcut bc it wouldn’t open normally in win10 lool)

mega pain in the ass lol glad it wasn’t our first rodeo

can’t imagine someone dealing with this while building their first PC lol I’d be pullin out my hair

Massively reconsidering my laptop (what was at least planned) upgrade to an HP Elitebook.

If they can’t be bothered giving reasonable and quite frankly a baseline support for you, I have no doubt they would happily skimp on giving me support for any issues I have.

Guess I’ll buy a Lenovo Thinkpad or something else instead.

u never tried using the Intel rapid storage driver , that usually fixes stuff like that ,when the SSDs arent shown during a new installation of OS ?

Wow, I’m honestly blown away by the support here! 45k views WOW thank you all so much! I’m new to Reddit but loving the vibe. Just so you know, I’m not here for an ego boost or karma points I’m here because HP in Palo Alto and Intel in Folsom need to wake up and actually make these drivers freely available.

I’m already working on the next meme, stay tuned.

If you’re fed up too, why not join the revolution?
