i thought Splitgate was a neat idea but never tried the game out, seeing this i don’t think i’ll bother with it.

Splitgate 1 was incredible, they abanonded it and said its because they wanted to build splitgate 2 because the foundation of 1 was terrible. didnt realize that he meant the shop couldnt hold enough zeros and the game felt too fresh. Really dissapointed we had such a promising concept brutalized and terorized by this. BR isn’t a fix all for your business and as much as it pains me, I hope Splitgate becomes the lesson to studios on trend chasing. Did we learn nothing from concord?

It was kinda funny he said “I don’t want to play the same Call of Duty every year” when he’s promoting Splitgate 2, a game that’s pretty much identical with their previous game.
There is nothing micro about a $100 in game purchase.
Comes out wearing a hat that’ll decide the player base. Says he hates games being the same all the time and wants titanfall 3. Then proceeds to announce the very thing that killed titanfall 3… a battle royal. Right after saying they’re going to make fps great again and saying that games are all the same they make a mode that’s been overdone for a decade and release the trailer to imagine dragons. And release a $80 microtransactions. He’s trying his best to kill his own game

Look, I won’t talk about your other complaints because I don’t care, but if you want to look at a game that had “portals before Portal” or Nabacular Drop even, check out Prey (2006).

Game designers should be free to see what mechanics work in other games and then combine or adjust them when building their own game, unless you’re Nintendo and want to sue companies for including ‘throw ball at animals to capture them’ mechanic or support that mindset
I’m immediately annoyed any time a dev tries to promote their game by shitting on other games. I don’t like COD either but your game should be able to stand on its own merit without trying to tear something else down. Him trying to shit on other games and use IPs like Titanfall for clout kind of indicates his lack of confidence in his own game.

“Stealing portals from portal” is a bit of a stretch. It’s not like Valve invented the concept of portals. And if you wanna talk about “stealing” movement from Titanfall we have a *lot* of other games to talk about. All the other stuff tho.. yea not good.

Imagine having the balls to say this when your F2P game dropped off faster than I can remember it’s release and in less than three years, you already made a sequel. The idea is neat, but don’t act like it’s original. It’s just elements of other popular FPS games. Also, even if I don’t think Call of Duty should be released every year nor is an amazing like it once was for FPS games, obviously if it’s amongst the top sellers every single year, they’re doing something right. Plus, whenever you play the game, you will see most people with paid skins. just saying. Titanfall 2 was the true movement forward and EA doomed it from the get-go with its horrible release date.
I tried Splitgate 2. Felt extremely generic, nothing looked good, map design was nonexistent, and the portals just compounded the problems. Felt like a game designed by AI.

Me and my friend had a laugh about it.
It sounded pretty cool at the start, even with the name dropping. Wanting to be like.. innovative and “new”.
Then he straight up reveals a battle royale, one of the most played out genres in the last ten years, and late to the party at that.
And then when he’s trying to be this new rebel, he fucking has an imagine dragons sounding song in the fucking trailer? Like the current day Nickelback?
How the fuck is any of that “upsetting the establishment”? Even Imagine Dragons at this point are kind of past their prime. Dude came off so out of touch it kind of hurt.
Kojima wore a hat like that, and he get’s a pass, cause he’s not from the US, and he removed the pic after people said “Hey that sends a bad message in the US.” This guy decided to ape the MAGA imaginary for a reveal on stage. And worse, it’s the Elon “Dark Gothic” MAGA look.
The sales pitch of “Halo + Portal + Titanfall” still works for me. I’m not too keen on arena shooters that aren’t “Quake Arena + best friend”, but hey… I hope SG2 turns out cool.

First Splitgate was alright for awhile. It made me think of Halo with portals and that was fine, but I can understand why they would want to shy away from that and make their own thing.
And where do they end up? Apex Legends with portals. And he really thinks it’s something special, huh.

It was to drum up controversy, Splitgate has struggled to justify these big show ad buys. The Titanfall line was also pretty transparent. “I’m one of you, a True Gamer. Anyways come buy my game”
It’s easy to think “everyone feels like this” because reddit often becomes an echo chamber, what are the other social media s saying? His advertisement/announcement certainly felt lame as hell. Just name dropping and the gameplay doesn’t look like anything special tbh.
Maybe a hot take, but I don’t really care about the MAGA style hat. I think adding your twist of what is now something iconic is pretty fun actually.
All in all, I would not say the dude did something AWFULLY wrong, it was a bit cringe, but that’s about it.
I will not play the game tho, not for me.
