Japanese Devs Output Has Been Insane Lately

Yeah, noticed from summer games fest a lot of stuff coming from Asia. I really wish western devs would drop the obsession with making ‘bigger and larger’ games. At this point it is taking over a decade just to make a single game.

    Bro didn’t put Deracine

And Pragmata isn’t even out yet…

Ye and if I’m looking at these games not a single bad game in sight

Meanwhile ubi with their 16k people – “best I can do is half-baked another assassin game per year”

Hell, even square has been putting out good work. But capcom is seriously in another golden age i think.

Fromsoft has become a titan in the industry in a real way. There were so many souls-like coming out. They really changed the industry’s meta.

4 Resident Evil games can be added to this list with RE7, 8 and the remakes. All amazing games.

    Edit: RE3 was a disappointment

Didn’t monster hunter wilds run like shit at the start? And I’m pretty sure people were hating on dragons dogma for all the microtransaction bs they did.

Something I’d be very interested to know is how tenured the Japanese staff in studios are compared to modern Western Devs.

Japan doesn’t have a great working culture but it does have a strong emphasis on company loyalty and avoiding mass layoffs. I believe for Tears of the Kingdom a large chunk of the staff had been there for many many years on multiple Zelda games.

Compared to 343 making Halo where it was just a revolving door of contractors coming in and having very little time to actually get an tenure or do anything except endless grinding.

It’s funny how the only “American” made games l played that l like are remakes (Dead Space, and Oblivion). It’s all been Asian games for me in past couple of years now.

Yeah when you get a lot of money from one product it can fund future things

No Koei? And how have Nihon Falcom fared over the last two decades? They’re not only releasing remasters now, or are they?

Quietly ignoring FromSoftware’s Déraciné, as per usual.

I mean on the yakuza and fromsoft side it’s because they make the same game every time. Not hating on them for that, just saying you can have a fast output when you’re reusing SO much of your games.

And the gaming community is really fickle on who they will accept that behavior from. When god of war ragnarok came out everyone was calling it DLC because of how similar it was to 2018 (which is crazy). But yakuza being the same and releasing 3 games in a 12 month span? Totally fine.

Nintendo absolutely should be up there. Their output is stupid

If u mean outputting half baked trash then yeah… Wilds still runs like a shitshow, they said optimization can suck my dick. Idk but it looks worse than MHW World to me, sure u may say graphics have increased but fck that Wilds look ugly, maybe its the Art direction that makes MHW World feel superior.

To be fair, a lot of these games play and feel the same.

    Looking at you, “Soulslike” clones.

Pragmata and Stranger than Heaven got me super excited, though.

Meanwhile American devs: here’s another skin pack for the skin shop with a half baked game attached that we released 6 years ago

Love the work of fromsoft! Purely gods work

  19. I’m really impressed by how FromSoftware has grown into one of the biggest powerhouses in the country, especially since I’ve known them since the ’90s. Hidetaka Miyazaki should be one of the greatest presidents in the industry.

Only downside is that the Japanese still haven’t figured out how to make a game perform well on pc.
