CPU runs very hot, like 45°C in idle with a Noctua NH-D15. I did a test with Cinebench 2024 and it reached almost 90°C. I set the settings people advised me with PBO +200MHz and CO -20.

  1. It’s summer and I have no air conditioner btw. I’d like the CPU to stay at least around 40°C when in idle. I moved from a 5600X with 105W TDP so a 9800X3D with 120W TDP shouldn’t be much hotter.

normal… buy a bigger cooler if it bothers you…

  3. I just got a 9800x3d, using it at stock settings, and it’s around the same temps with a 420mm AIO.
I was concerned too but what I found is that at idle if you look at the CPU IOD Hotspot that’s around 45-50 which the overall CPU temp displays as when in reality your core temps are in the 30s.
The hotspot always runs at this temperature and usually stays between 45-55 no matter if it’s idle or stress testing.

Stress testing mine is around 80-85 but anything below 90 is completely fine since your cpu is rarely at this usage for long periods of time anyway and as others have stated it can survive high temps well.
While gaming my temps are around 55-60 which I think is perfectly fine.

Same chip, I switched from a Noctua cooler to a Thermalright Evo thingy, Roughly 10c improvement everywhere
