See you in 2027 when the OLED version is launched.

  2. derverdwerb

They’re drawing that bowstring to breaking point. The screen brightness is the only articulated complaint and it is somehow “below average” while actually being better than all three original Switch variants.

  3. Suspicious-Diet-5010

Most people I have seen review it online say it looks good. 🤷‍♂️

  4. neondrifter

Looks better than my Switch 1.

Which is the entire point sooooo I’m happy with it.

  5. djwillis1121

This place really hates the Switch 2 huh? I’ve seen nothing but outrage articles posted about it

  6. Even then, it’s gonna sell millions and millions for a whole while

For months it’s gonna be always out of stock

Those companies won’t ever need to take a single effort to improve…

  7. “In other games like Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the HDR experience is rather disappointing, as the game looks washed out due to its aesthetics and the lack of contrast.”

So it’s noth the HDR support mostly the game’s artistic direction?

  8. I don’t think the majority will care. It looks plenty good enough.

  9. People complaining about Breath of the Wilds pastel colour palette are the same people that crank up the contrast to the max setting with Reshade. Lol

  10. Firamaster

“No one cares. They’ll buy this shit anyway.” -nintendo probably.

  11. Benevolay

That’s fine. My TV also comes with below-average display and disappointing HDR support. Not all of us are rich. A $450 console on a $450 TV. It’s fine.

What a new Nintendo console is way behind in tech and way over priced?!? No wayyyy. /s

  13. shad0wgun

Not sure why anybody expected an OLED screen on this for $450. The cheapest steam OLED is $550 and the steam deck is supposedly not as strong as the switch 2. It would have been nice if they offered an OLED version for more but people probably would have complained about that as well.

  14. Interesting-Yellow-4

It’s exactly the display they told us it comes with. This is non news. Embarrassing.

  15. Rich_Consequence2633

What’s with the hate hard on for the Switch 2 on this sub? The system is pretty great for being a handheld for $450.

  16. thelastsupper316

Ally X has basically the same display and is $800 so kinda a non issue.

  17. BruisendTablet

It does not matter. 98% of people dont care about all the fancy features and abbreviations of tech people.

  18. Expert-Joke5185

I have an OLED Steamdeck that completely retired my OLED Switch.

I’ll wait a couple years and get the refreshed S2.

  19. IntrepidButtSniffer

I picked it up today it’s amazing, Mario kart world is really fun. The display looks impressive to me.

  20. Every Nintendo console has been a generation behind in terms of hardware

  21. Swift_42690

Not surprised at all. Why did people think they’re getting a proper hdr display with lcd tech. It has to be oled or mini led for true hdr.

  22. Below average compared to what? That’s better than the Steam Deck and the vast majority of laptops. What’s the point of comparison?

  23. I picked it up last night, it could objectively be worse than a 1k monitor but it looks fantastic in hands.

  24. allmyfrndsrheathens

Weird people didn’t have the same energy when the steam deck dropped with an LCD screen 🤔

  25. H-Axis-Deluxe33

This is BS. So many people i have seen online said that the screen is still good if not better than the OLED on Switch 1

  26. What does “below average” mean here? And “disappointing”?

That’s not research or study findings – that’s review language!?

  27. cL0udBurn

I’ve literally only ever used my switched in docked mode so the screen is an afterthought for me – being said im playing mario kart world on my tv atm and it looks bloody wonderful; so smooth too.

  28. No OLED on purpose to sell the same console to everyone again, it worked for them once so why not again.

  29. TitaniumGoldAlloyMan

Nintendo is famous for selling old hardware for a premium price.

  30. Nintendo is mad corny with their dog shit hardware.

I’ll end up buying this thing if course at some point because I’m an idiot with no self respect but it is insane just how behind they are constantly.

Especially with PC handhelds now. Why are they always releasing some weak POS with less features than the old one (OLED)

  31. thecman25

Well no shit, Nintendo always makes mediocre consoles

  32. Fucky0uthatswhy

I haven’t played my switch since I got my series x. Yesterday I was in bed with my gf and just wanted to play metal gear solid, but it’s unplayable on there. It’s so small and the quality is such trash, especially for a game like MGS3 which has old controls and where you need to be aware of your surroundings. I changed my mind immediately. I don’t think I’ll buy a switch 2 for awhile if ever tbh

  33. everburn_blade_619

    > in Cyberpunk 2077, it is locked to 450 nits, likely the maximum peak brightness the display is capable of. This peak brightness is not even close to providing a proper HDR experience, which is made worse because we are talking about an LCD display that fails to display black correctly due to the back lighting and the constant black level rise of 0.5 nits.

Yikes. This is Walmart Black Friday “HDR” TV levels of brightness and contrast. And because it’s LCD, it also can’t do local dimming.

I guess as long as you’re not buying it expecting an HDR gaming experience or to enjoy HDR content in general, it’s not a deal breaker.

  34. xEternal408x

Nintendo has been fleecing customers for years. I expect no different now. More anti consumer than EA

  35. Cancelled my preorder yesterday once I came to terms I was getting this for the hype but not actually hyped about the hardware. But I’m only really interested in a few titles, I wouldn’t say I’m their target audience.

  36. TheBottomLine_Aus

As someone who has no opinion as I haven’t seen anything prior to this reddit post.

    This post will basically be:

“it’s terrible and I hate it” – People expecting the same quality as they computer monitor

    Or

“I don’t get it, it’s completely fine” – people who would buy the switch 2 even if it was literally just a switch 1 in a new housing.

It’s probably not great, but it’s probably not as bad as some people say.
