Would be interesting and is certainly plausible (could also be based on a quote that is being taken out of context)…but being on a wiki, if it doesn’t have a credible source mentioned or linked then treat it with skepticism.

This actually happens a lot with games. Like how in Assassin’s Creeds Odyssey and Valhalla, the original and canon protagonist is female, but the male option was added for mass appeal.
But if it’s true in *this* case, well, we don’t have any proof. It seems like CDPR is comfortable making a purely female-led game though, looking at Witcher 4, so I don’t see why they would’ve necessarily forced in a male V if he wasn’t planned too.
She talks about working alongside Gavin in this panel and what casting was like but she really makes it seem like she 1. had no clue what she was being cast for 2. worked in tandem with Gavin, although she doesn’t outright say anything that dismissed this point of trivia I am not sure at all what the source is.
SuperArppis
Is this gonna turn into one of those fights like with FemShep and BroSeph?
Because that was childish enough.
Dashwii
Dunno how valid this is. The original leaked Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay from 2013 shows male V walking around his apartment. Vincent was there from the jump.
AmeliorativeBoss
I like the idea that both characters have the nickname V
Electronic-Touch-554
I don’t think it even matters because it’s not like they’re gonna remove one of the options lmao.
I enjoy female V more as I found male V over the top and a bit cringy but just play whatever you like more.
CranEXE
probably huge lie, the wiki is fanmade and it could have been added by anybody who want their vision to be true especially when there’s no sources, femv fans are known to be (sorry to generalise but i rarely had a nice experience with a femv fan) very lousy and not really accepting anything beyond their vision if it doesn’t worship cherami and shit on the whole idea of mascv
since the begining cyberpunk was presented to public cdpr showed the option to have either a male or a female character, the cgi trailer showing first vincent, the the e3 demo was played with valerie BUT the presence of a male option was in the character creation ect…., i even think there was some gameplay video before that showing the all food attack where mascv used mantis blade to latch on a wall (my memory could be wrong thought)
remind me strangely of someone i had an argument on a cyberpunk sub who kept saying femv was originally the only option that vincent was added to please the lousy white man and panam was lesbian at first despite all the proof i showed her.
cdpr confirmed it in the past, there is not a canon gender for v noor a canon romance or ending, the only thing they made canon is v age 23 and i think the canon lifepath i saw it was street kid
zombosis
Male V is canon V don’t care what anyone says (female V has some good voice acting though)
Riker1701NCC
This whole female V male V debate is absolute brainrot. You are V and whether you play Valerie or Vincent doesn’t matter. It’s absolute genius as if they reuse some characters they can treat V with the they/them pronouns and just use V as the name. By the looks of it only Johnny knows how V is actually called and the most likely ending they’ll go for is that Johnny was sent into cyberspace with alt and V left with their love interest.
Mary_Ellen_Katz
I might be true. But it might be one of those technically true things. As in it probably doesn’t mean anything. They likely opened casting calls, and Talent + availability landed the actress first as a matter of coincidence. Likewise would be the case if the male voice actor was hired first. The games design document probably already had it that the game required a male and female role.
Inven13
Which wiki is that? Because I’m personally not convinced by that information.
Enough-Aioli-6200
Then why did all the marketing use male v?
nathansanes
Both male v and fem v are canon.
NikushimiZERO
Doubt it, but who knows.
I’d take it with a grain of salt. It’s possible they cast her first, but that doesn’t mean it was only going to be Fem V or that Fem V is canon. They could have just started designs on her first
I mean, they have to start somewhere. Personally I’d find it weird if they were going to lock gender in a game based on a ttrpg where you can choose gender.
The closest I found to any kind of comment on it is in on an AnsweRED podcast [AnsweRED Podcast – Episode 2: What Makes a Great Quest Great?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bphFsoKBMB0) at 16:17 where they mention they wanted Quest Designers to think of V as Female and Writers to think of V as Male.
So, because of this, the Lead Quest Designer sees V as Female. So to him, that’s the real V, but it’s not really a confirmation. Just personal preference.

Is there an actual trustworthy source to this or there is nothing but this one silly image
Astral-P
She voiced A2 in Nier: Automata (the first time she’d really voiced such a character), the closest thing to a vengeful cybernetic mercenary you could get before 2077 was released. I imagine the localization team took one look at her 10-minute performance and went “yep she’s the one.”
Shadtow100
I call BS.
Despite being a FPS game the character creator is ridiculously deep, even at launch. It would be weird if adding a male V was an afterthought. This also would have come up a lot sooner. Ubisoft was dragged over the fire when it was revealed that Alexios was only in Oddesey because the studio said gamers wouldn’t purchase an AC game with a female protagonist. Literally everyone was attacking CDPR during the buggy launch, it would definitely have been leaked and come up as “why did they waste time on another gender when they could have been debugging”. Now was the female VA hired first and did a lot of the emotional tone setting with the male VA happening second? That’s a believable story, but mor3 of a happenstance than an intentional move

I actually like them both equally. The VAs add a slightly different attitude to them too.
boogeymankc
I like the voice better on female V . That being said, it’s a game, pick one and get on with it. The city’s waiting for it’s next legend.
superiorCheerioz
Gotta be honest, I kinda hated both voice actors. Female V sounds like katniss everdeen, and male V is just too much Boston.
bucketboy9000
Whether true or not I don’t have a clue and I don’t intend to find out because it ain’t important for me.
allofdarknessin1
I’ve really only played male V and I think he’s perfect. I played female V for a few hours on another playthrough and she’s good too but I prefer male V, his acting and relationship dynamics fit better in my opinion with male V.
astronauticalll
honestly I vastly prefer playing as fem V and for whatever reason it does feel like the more “canon” V to me, even though the story beats are exactly the same maybe there’s some of that intention leftover in the story still that people are picking up on
