Adam Smasher doesn't do anything wrong in game nor in anime. I am sure lorewise he did many shitty things, but as far as his on-screen appearance goes — he quite literally an exemplary employee that never done anything bad both in moral and legal term. In 2076 he does kill people, but in terms of context Adam was hired as a security for an office building and that building was attacked by cyberpsycho and none of them was even remotely innocent.
Same thing in 2077, he doesn't even do anything to you after you supposedly killed his boss, you don't have any personal vendetta or hatred for him — all Johnny's, who, by the way, was also killed by Smasher totally legitimately. Even in the final fight he doesn't do anything bad — just stopping violent terrorists that broke in the building and started shooting everyone indiscriminately. He even gives away his life trying to defend his employers.
Just a weird feeling that a supposed boogeyman and possibly the most violent character in universe kills total of 0 innocents in media he appears in.

Just because someone is the antagonist in the story, it doesn’t mean they are a bad person. I never viewed Smasher as a bad guy, only an asshole because of the “cut of fuckable meat” comment. Got no indication that he murders people randomly, or goes psycho. All I got was that wherever he went, he was the biggest dog in the room and not to be fucked with. He seemed to me to be a merc that had no issues doing bad things if it were asked of him, because he’s a good soldier, and good soldiers follow orders.
But out of all of that, I never saw him as being evil. Asshole, sure. Not nice? Definitely. But evil? Nah. Evil is the father/son BD editors. Adam Smasher is just an asshole. A very, very dangerous asshole.
I feel like Johny was putting thoughts and hate on V’s mind about smasher, because technically hes not really a bad guy, he never does anything to you that a bad guy would, you just encounter him in specific points when you try to fuck with Arasaka , not to mention you didn’t even kill the guy, just took him out of commission temporally, would he in theory see you as a Enemy or does he not care? Who knows, pretty iconic antagonist that I wish we could see more and have more fights with, like the first fight you have with him you kill him but at the end he shows up or something
That random corpo woman he kidnapped and shot in the shower a few days before you find Grayson begs to differ.
That’s not true. On the Ebunike, you can find a dead woman in a bathroom. This is Mallory, Anthony Gilchrist’s wife/girlfriend. Smasher kidnapped her in order to force Gilchrist to take part in the Maelstrom cargo scheme. When Gilchrist is predictably fingered as the mole and captured by Meredith, Smasher murders Mallory.
A recording of a conversation between Smasher and Grayson reveals that Smasher knew the plan wasn’t going to work from the start and Grayson is left bewildered as to why they kidnapped a murdered the woman in the first place then.
Just because something is legal doesn’t mean it is good. Soulkiller is legal.
Killing people for Arasaka is wrong though
Gotta get into the lore. Adam wasn’t an employee, he was a merc, and he only accepted contracts for Arasaka if they allowed collateral damage. They did, obviously, and he always took advantage of that caveat when possible.
Honestly I don’t know any Adam Smasher stories where he does anything “wrong”, the worst thing about Smasher is his loyalty to Arasaka and because of all the shitty things they do he is pretty bad
Omg stop
lol is this a serious post? 😀
Still want to bust this guy into scrap metal. Hope we get the chance in future.
You got a few circuits shortin out here on this take
Maybe take a recharge
Your post gave me [good guy Vader](https://youtu.be/xwovZY91WOI?si=Zj4AVgdztiuQIGLU) vibes
Bootlicker corpo kinda post ngl.
I feel like people are running out of good topics to talk about in this sub. But you gotta keep it alive somehow.
Not really. Adam Smasher’s work as a Saka’ lapdog is an affront to humanity in and of itself. He’s not takemura. He’s not loyal out of a genuine (yet misguided) belief they can do good due to the care they provided him, he just likes to kill people, and Arasaka is his avenue to carry out this.
Legal ≠ moral or sound. This is one of the core parts of cyberpunk.
Where the fuck is Mike Pondsmith to tell people Smasher is genuinely an evil guy? Please u/realmaxmike help us 🙏🏻😭
Being an exemplary employee for a mass murdering megacorp is bad actually
someone forgot the boat
Hmm. Never noticed how red his eyes are. They’re nice.
Ah bullshit he killed Rebecca who is so cute she didn’t diserve it he called evlin parker fuckable meat if anything he diserves every death to be embarrassing and brutal as fuck
Idk on the legal front, but morally? Really? You did the unskippable braindance pre-arasaka where he sexually harassed Evelyn Parker, yeah?
Who let Arasakas legal team in?
He attacks board members.
“jUsT sToPPiNg ViOlEnT TeRrOriStS” 😒bootlicker
Took him 50 years to become head of security. Employee of the century indeed.
Saying out loud “YOU’RE A FUCKABLE PIECE OF MEAT” while making eye contact the very instant you see a hooker on your boss’ suite… I mean, that screams boogeyman for me.

There is no good guys in Night City. Every powerplayer is there to have profit and power.
And they will like, cheat, steal and kill.
Arasaka, Militech, NUSA, Rogue and every other fixer, Smasher, Silverhand.
You just decide with whom you are playing and who will be against you.
Smasher’s intro in-game: “You look like a cut of fuckable meat.”
You somehow?: “This guy seems okay, nothing wrong there.”
🤣

Yes, he follows the law. If the law is amoral, that makes the one “only following orders” the evil one. Yes, its that easy. Corporate dystopia is just another facet of fascism.
From an Arasaka and mega corp perspective, you’re right. He basically does the equivalent of showing up to the office everyday and does his job as well as he can. Morality wise though, he takes pleasure in the most horrible and extreme forms of human punishment.
I knew some German people in uniform during the last centuries that were just following orders
He killed the best girl, no forgiveness.
Working security is kinda problematic tho, because it reinforces land ownership :/
“You look like a cut of F*ck*ble meat. Are you?” to Evelyn was in Konpeki plaza wasn’t exactly kosher.
