I didn't think to buy a mouse pad, and now 4 years later my table is ruined. I can't believe it took me that much time to realise how much damage it was doing to the table.
If you're thinking of buying a PC, then definitely get a mousepad for yourself. It'll save your table.

how can you not use a deskpad? it’s super comfortable to rest your arms and hands on it while using a mouse

Bro
Just buy a new table lol
I was going to ask how you got a crosshatch pattern from mouse use and then I realized, it’s an IKEA desk with a honeycomb pattern structure for the core. They also sell a desk mat at IKEA which is relatively thick and quite comfortable, no edge stitching though.
I got me one of them there desk pads that’s big enough for my keyboard and mouse. I’m not sure why, I think it’s because it was just as cheap. I like cheap. Plus, it was blue. I like blue. Yessir, it’s the color of the sky on a clear day. You ever see the sky on a clear day?
Buy a stick on hard mousepad. I have one under my cloth mousepad in case I want to use a different surface.
It’s not just that, but it also protects your mouse from constantly being dragged across the table and damaging the bottom of the mouse.
That isn’t why you buy a mousepad. You buy a mouse pad to decrease friction and protect the ptfe or glass feet.
polished a table once without playing with mousepad…. its very reflective now 🙂
Your table is still functional though right? This wouldn’t bother me at all as it’s just aesthetic
Semi related, look into cabinetry stickers. You can buy them in sheets large enough to cover a desk and either cover up things like this or refresh something you’ve grown tired of.
get one of the big mouse pads like 90cm wide. it is the most comfy option and will completely hide your table underneath. they are available in all kind of looks and colors. In my experience it is worth to invest in a brand name one. the cheap ones of
Now you can cover the spot with a well placed mousepad 😉

Ruined is a bit dramatic for a crappy veneer.
bruh
“Table is ruined” lol ok drama queen.
Ok, now do one This is why you wear pants
Ikea Lagkapten moment
Ah, the markings of a computer god
How do you take 4 years to think of getting a mousepad wtf
When bro swipes his mouse across a pad for the first time

Or a better desk.. Mine’s solid beech. Not wearing through that anytime soon.
“Save your table”
Lmao god forbid your table is smoother now
Umm yeah…
And i mean if youre playing GPS games its just better with a mouse pad.
“Save your table”
Lmao god forbid your table is smoother now
It’s not ruined if you put a mousepad on it, and never lift it up.
Sand table and varnish. It’s going to look a a hell of a lot better than that spunk-white.
Did you just notice this? 😆
F for respect 🫡
No, you use a mouse pad so the mouse pads don’t get worn quick, it’s a smooth surface so your mouse doesn’t do unwanted behaviours and then it also saves your wrists.
I destroyed my desk without a mouse pad. It was made of plywood, got a small spot that was up. My mouse hit it and created a small hole that got bigger and bigger over time. It took about a year to render it unusable for a mouse.
Since then I’ve always used mouse pads.
>ruined
I’m pretty sure its still a perfectly working table.
If you don’t want to use mouse on it anymore, put some tablecloth on it. Or napkin. Or just about anything else. Done.
If you do, you can continue with or without mousepad depending on how smooth it is.
Either way you’re golden.

It’s a cheap desk, buying a new top probably costs the same as a nice mousepad
Also did all that scratching noise not bother you? I think I originally bought a mouse pad because of that
Polished that wood so hard you can see the wood underneath!
This is why you get a desk made from real wood. Get rid of that laminated garbage.

oh dang i got a mouse pad cuz it has a cool lighting thing on the edge and it changes colors randomly!
thanks for that post i was about to buy pc and u have saved my only table just now 😀
but i can just put one of my books and voala i have saved it without getting scammed from companies
I just use a lego box

Your table isn’t *ruined*.
It’s still *a table*, right? Then it’s fine.
* You can easily refinish it
* If it’s where your mouse pad/desk mat would have gone anyway, it literally *doesn’t matter* – put a mouse pad over the area, and you’re as good as new (because you were never going to see that area, anyway. It’s not like people are storing their mouse pads away after every session)
* An actual/solid wood desk wouldn’t have this problem (I have a wooden desk, years of bare mousing on it has been fine – the area, if anything, is just a little darker, from the oils of my skin. Get better furniture if you’re worried about “damage”
* If you have good PTFE mice feet on your mouse/if you replace them periodically, like you should, this wouldn’t happen.
* If you like the solid, consistent, hard mousing surface, consider a hard pad/glass pad (don’t get a fabric pad just because they’re cheaper or easier to come by. There are options.)
Not the only reason “why you get a mouse pad”. Not even close to the biggest reasons for having one:
* Your desk surface finish is inconsistent/damaged
* Your mouse sensor doesn’t work on the finish/material of your desk
* You want to change the movement/inertia characteristics
* You have glass/sapphire mice feet, and the mouse is actually in danger of damaging or breaking the desk
* You like how it looks
* You’ve been using one since forever, and have forgotten why mouse pads were necessary, and you’re a creature of habit
It’s also good for an activity called aiming
I was tired of carving through rubber mouse pads over and over and I got an aluminum one, best investment Ive done, its still standing 6y later, best part is that if it gets dirty just wash it with water or rubbing alcohol.
I no lie, though this was the underside of your forearn/wrist.
Ikea’s quality is terrible imo. I got the exact same desk.
