is epic that bad? i’ve got some good games from epic for free

Steam doesent make the sales. Its the devs/publishers that choose to go on sale. Steam just arranged times where going on sale means free advertising.
ohmygodadameget
Steam is great, but my one gripe with the whole platform is how they make you jump through hoops to stop a game from updating while allowing you to keep playing.
Sony cracked this 18 years ago with the PS3 with the “Disable Automatic Updates” option.
With a huge chunk of gamers using mods now it’s kind of essential but Steam for whatever reason still don’t have this feature.

Dudes on the left makes the sales bruh.

I’m all for Steam glaze but they don’t make the sales brother

The issue is the 30% cut. Its just way to much for what they provide. As epic is proving you can do it with 12%. Competition is a good thing and would lower prices for us of especially indie games since they don’t have to pay a larger cut.
Edit: Everyone that disagrees that there should be more competition, but complains about Apples monopoly, needs to just be quiet. Its literally the same thing. They also take the 30% cut for essentially the same service.
Steam costs basically nothing to run. All of us are paying too much for our games because of it.

10 years ago sales were much better, though. Some offers would last only a few hours with a huge, huge discount and you could get incredible deals. Today I barely see anything crazy, prices are quite standarized.

Reposted a billion time this week… Steam is another billion dollar company that cares about making money and uses heavy gambling.

I wouldn’t lump Nintendo in there, they not mad. Swimming around in their Scrooge McDuck money bin.

Sell digital media cheaper make the same or more money. Why can’t anyone buy steam understand the new economics of infinitely replicable digital goods?

I’ve actually noticed that there are some fair deals on Xbox sometimes, some even better than on Steam.
Example is Robocop Rogue City. Currently 90% off on Xbox but all-time low was 80% on steam.
Deusgo
Don’t they also promote gambling and loot boxes?

The glory of remaining independent.
Valve makes plenty of money already and they’re not looking for this fantasy of infinite growth. They’re content to just provide a good service that people willingly pour money into because it’s good.
INannoI
Its literally the publishers on the left that are providing the discounts, you donkey.
Sega-Playstation-64
The Switch 2 outsold lifetime sales of the Steam deck in just a few seconds so I really don’t think they’re stressing that much.

I love Steam.
And basically a perfect business model and probably the most bulletproof company out there. Staying private a wise choice. Also, I doubt any monopoly or anti-trust claims would hold up as though they clearly have cornered the market in game distribution, pretty much most studios and operating systems have some form of game delivery system that Steam would argue counters any monopoly issues. Considering Steam’s reach pretty impressive they have stayed off the radar screen of regulators.
Do I have gripes? Yea, but not even sure it is Steam’s fault. My biggest issue is some games simply update and work better if you download and launch outside of Steam (e.g., DCS). Also a fair amount of bloat functionality/ware that annoys (No, I don’t need big picture). But all things considered the good outweighs the bad exponentially.

You had me excited for a moment that the Steam Deck is 95% off

I think you need to look into steam more.
Customer end it’s a good product but if you’re a dev it can be hard.

id like to vouch for epic games free games (sometimes) but those games are mostly shit
Inksplash-7
It’s the publishers who make the sales. I agree with you about the good service tho

“Steam isn’t the one that makes the sales”, this kind of take lacks nuance and really discredits the work that Valve puts into these seasonal sales.
AncientPCGuy
Not seeing it much anymore. Lately they seem to be just the same prices as other places on sale.
Now the service, refund period and security is definitely better than the rest.
Char-11
I like steam too but making shit up to glaze gaben is schizo circlejerking wtf

Not anymore, not since the flash sales of years ago

I had some bad experience with the customer service. So im not really onboard with you on that one.

valve runs basically an underage casino in cs2, worse and more predatory than anything ubisoft, epic or any other le evil corporation has ever done. but valve good ubisoft bad guyzz

I guess enjoy steam until Gabe leaves. That’s gonna be the saddest day tbh.
MrParticular79
I love steam but they take 30%, it’s ridiculous.
DkerzaChessRush
”Customer service for gamers in anyway we can” I call that BS. They don’t have a strong stance on early access live-service games that have gone abandonware/rugpulled. Greed Is Good was the name’s game in this case and their response to people attempting to have it refunded was bad.
rip_wanted
our we still pretending that steam still has good steam sales??
DullBlade0
Do people honestly think Valve is the one that sets the sales price?
