I’d argue the DLC is better written than the main game, and the main game is excellent.
For me the DLC’s writing is comparable to the witcher 3 DLC’s which are arguably the best narrative dlc’s ever made
The DLC is amazing, but I’d recommend experiencing it on a new playthrough instead of an existing character who’s only remaining mission is Hanako.
The DLC has so much awesome new stuff that you’ll never get to fully utilize if you do it last. Lately I’ve been making a beeline for Dogtown as soon as I hit Act II. Don’t have to complete the DLC, but definitely start it so you have access to the new Iconics and Gigs.

Don’t mean to hijack this thread, but I’m replaying the main game for the 2nd time. Bought the DLC, and I’m right at the part in the main game where I’m a couple missions past the VDBs, and Songbird just called me. Never played the DLC, so I need to finish the main game first? I know at some point the main game says there’s no going back, I’m trying to finish all the side stuff too. Any help is appreciated!

Do the DLC, but also do the alternate ending. This one is the closest to a happy ending that you’re going to get, but there are other endings depending on who you take with you after Embers.
So worth it. Fantastic DLC and the voice acting is beyond top shelf.
DLC is a 10/10 but you were supposed to play it before finishing the main story in base game. Still, better than not playing at all.
