Body control fetishs are all fun and games until a rando on the Internet throws you off a bridge from the other side of the world.

In most cases of media, the mind of the proxy completely turns off while being “puppeted”, and thus they don’t really *experience* anything.

If you want the character’s mind to be aware, but unable to do anything but silently observe… That would probably be quite traumatizing, just seeing your body do stuff, without being able to provide any input whatsoever.

The Girl Who Was Plugged In by James Tiptree Jr.

Both great references to what you have presented.

John Scalzi’s novel, Lock In, explores this concept, though I don’t believe the surrogates are conscious while working.
