It looks good but not better, similar to Bf1. Good art direction, excellent use of photogrammetry.
But overal geometry, shader use is 2016 style and the shadows are baked in ofcourse.
seriouslywtfX2
While it certainly looks good for a ten year old game, I wouldn’t say it looks better than most games made today with equivalent budgets. (Of course it’s gonna look better than most games, because most games are low budget indie titles that can’t afford fancy graphics.)

Revisionist history. There was outrage when this game came out because it didn’t include a campaign. The majority of gamers hated this game.
I fucking loved it though, it just had that same feeling as the movies, it felt like you were in the Star Wars universe. I made some lifelong internet friends playing Cargo in this game.
Idk why but I never got that same feeling in SWBF2.

Battlefront 1 is 21 years old and better than Battlefront 1.

Second game absolutely blew this one out of the water.

Frostbite was a killer engine, period.

too bad it played mid

I personally prefer the gameplay of BF1

Star Wars Battlefront 1 is 21 years old 2004 edition by Pandemic Studios
Oculicious42
The entire environment is made of assets that are photogrammetrically captured from the actual location where the endor scenes were shot, not all games have that opportunity/privilege

I thought the gunplay was more fun than Battlefront 2.

If only it was as good as the classics

No matter what people’s opinions on this game are, I can only speak from personal experience. My first ps console was a ps4 (I’m young, btw), and we only got one because it was this battlefront edition one. I played this game to death, and in a strange way I really do owe every game I’ve played afterwards to this!
The only game my Dad plays is Battlefront 1, he has over 1000 hours on it, and I still sometimes play it with him just for old times sake. So yeah, it might not be a perfect game, but it’s perfect for me, certainly perfect for my dad, and I’m very appreciative of its existence.
That’s all 🙂

No it doesn’t
Ambros63
this Battlefront is what ruined the Battlefield 1 that was made after it imo, the Battlefield was a 1 to 1 copy of everything the star wars game had which meant all the bad things too, ideous HUD, orrendous card systems, too many wrong things man I hated it
Platonist_Astronaut
I remember how much people hated this thing when it came out lol.
Jackielegs43
No, it doesn’t. Not even a little bit, please stop being ridiculous. But it does look pretty good!

I think it had very limited content though.

So people claim that 10 years is the time span when a game becomes retro. I’d say that definition hasn’t been true for a while now, the game design principles and graphics have not been evolving as fast as they’ve used to, a 10-year gap today isn’t as significant as it was 10-20 years ago.
I don’t even agree with the 2-gen rule, where ps3 -era games would be considered retro. Vanguish, Uncharted 3, Titanfall, and heck, GTA V, are still good looking and mechanically modern.

I mean wtf do people expect. If you just throw together a bunch of independent contractors, so you can cut cost, and let them go once stuff is done, your companies expertise won’t grow at all. Mistakes of the past will repeat itself over and over again which ultimately leads to stagnation in quality at first and regression later down the line. And the regression state is where we are at in the moment.
There is rpg games released rn that have worse physics than oblivion. Optimisation is so poor rn you might as well buy extra ssds for every new tripple A title because devs can’t code for shit anymore and I’m calling it now 5 years from now games required diskspace will be measured in tb, while graphics and everything else will stay the same.

I think The Order 1886 looked even better. Shame so few people gave the game a fair chance.
SimpleManofPeace
no it doesnt name one game it has better gfx then
PowerScreamingASMR
No it doesnt. But its true that graphical improvements for AAA games have plateaued.
MyzMyz1995
I loved that game personally. Wasn’t very well received due to the lack of campaign and other launch issues though.

Graphics are impressive but he’s running it at 8K on a 5090 in 2025. There’s not many studios that can afford to target the highest end graphics card that won’t be invented for another 10 years

You don’t play many games do ya?

Horizon zero dawn was gorgeous as well.

eigth gen console is the goldilock era for graphic quality. It’s where graphic fidelity is advanced enough to look modern but the hardware isn’t too advanced so developer would use every shortcut in the book, and it was before DLSS and all that bullshit so they actually has to optimize it.
diegodamohill
Ok, but what if they added raytracing so we get maybe 5% better graphics with 1/3 of the framerate?
Pilota_kex
it does, but that is only one aspect of a game. let’s talk about others too. like i had fun playing the story, it was great, but they had a perfect concept for multiplayer and still made it to be bad. so boring. all we needed was custom game, instead we got the dumbest game modes ever and you find one you kinda like and you can be sure that the game start an other game mode as soon as it is over. why though? anyway that game could be great, easily, yet they made it to suck

Diminishing returns in full force. If you can see through the smoke and mirrors you’ll see modern games look much better, but at first glance, the Xbox One / PS4 generation graphics still look really good today. Can’t say I mind.
iamzumie
Which version should I get on Steam to play this game? I mostly want to play the single player campaign.
mordax777
I think this game had a lot of issues when it came out. They released it just after Battlefield 4, it felt a bit like a re-skin of it. It had a lot of micro transactions. Full of graphical bugs and soon after Battlefield 1 was released, which was an absolute banger.
psych4191
It’s a damn shame that EA halfassed the Battlefront reboot so hard. The graphics and sound design are practically perfect. But it’s a shallow experience compared to the first rendition of the franchise.
IgneousWrath
Definitely some bitter takes in this thread. However, yes it does still look pretty amazing and it ran surprisingly well when it came out.
I know people have said it doesn’t look better than most AAA games today, but it’s still one of those rare cases where an AAA dev does it so right it doesn’t start to look terrible 2 years down the road.
