If money was not a problem could I legally purchase all the rights to the PlayStation 1 game Legend of Dragoon and give it a reboot.
And if I could how much money would it be to completely redevelop a game like that?

Basically if it became my life goal to do this legally and development was paid appropriately how would one go about this?

Yes I would add fully edited videos, voice acting, scaling from story to extreme mode. slight adjustments to combat defences like expedition 33. Any thing else would u add ?

I have done the math in my head and you will at the least need 12 dollars USD

I have loved what I’ve played of this game. But I’m cursed with it.

Wjen I borrowed a friend’s copy on ps1back in lé day, i got to the penultimate disc. Then the last one was scratched just enough to not work. Alright, fine. Still had a lotta fun.

Years later I worked in a used electronics and video game department. LoD came through, I bought it. Same spot, same problem. But this was THE FUTURE. So I downloaded a rom. Played through. Same. Spot. I’ll never experience the end firsthand, but love it so much all the same.

Great game, I wish you luck in your endeavors for riches, that you might make your dream a reality! 🙂

  3. My absolute favorite game from childhood. God I miss it.

  4. One of the few games I give a pass for quick time events

Yeah Sony’s got that locked up tight in their vault, no chance.

Please do so. I can already hear “HEKASU HAMMA” in my head

Is it for sale? There’s your answer. You got $15 million for the IP and then another $5-15 million for dev costs?

This game was my introduction to Jrpgs and I feel absolutely blessed to have grown up with it. Admittedly hasn’t aged that well. The random encounters are every 5 steps, but I have really fond memories of playing through this absolute epic with my brother.

Can you? I guess it’d depend on how much you win from the lottery and how much Sony would want for the IP. But assuming you’d have enough money, I don’t see why not.

I was just thinking the same thing. If I’m super duper rich, I’d pay for a remake.

I imagine if you had the money to buy the IP outright, you could do whatever you want with it lol that’s always been my plan if I ever win the lottery when it’s stupid high. Find some niche forgotten game that I love and buy it.

If you want something with a similar battle experience try Clair obscur expedition 33

Loved this game, it was overshadowed by Final Fantasy unjustly IMO but it was also marketed badly. A remake would be amazing.

I told the same to my friends in 2021… If money was not a problem I would buy TLOD and make a FF7 kind of remake.

    What a game… I beat it every 4/5 years.

Wow… core memories unlocked. This was a fun one.

I have longed for a LoD remake for a long time.

I heard a rumor that the source code was lost, unfortunately.

Totally. Ill add my 401k if we need a bit more to make it happen

I’d like to see a prequel to it at some point, too. The Dragon Campaign has a lot of room for storytelling.

If you did this, I would kiss you right on the mouth.

    Every day.

For the rest of our lives.

    It would become a ritual.

Your wife and kids would be concerned at first, then come to accept that this is a part of life.

I really enjoyed this game. It was well done, the story was solid, the visuals were awesome. 10/10 I would buy and play a reboot.

DO YOU HEAR THAT GAME COMPANIES, I WILL GIVE YOU MY MONEY FOR A WELL DONE REBOOT OF A GOOD GAME.

If you do, hire me. it’s my favorite jRPG of all time. I also want to buy the rights and remake it and then make a sequel. I’ve been formulating ideas for over 20 years since I was a kid and beat this game

This had good music.  The original Claire Obscur

So wow, there is an unofficial PC and deck port of LoD called [Severed Chains](https://legendofdragoon.org/projects/severed-chains/) that has active development going on. Currently developing its third version which will be a massive overhaul to visuals with 4K resolution, 60FPS scenes/overworld (60FPS battles come in a later build) on top of enhancements already made. Modding support will also be implemented later on.

I have key memories of the “blooper” promo trailer on the demo disc I played on as a kid. I didn’t realize until later on how much this game was adored!!

It was an interesting game with new ideas but I don’t think I’d want a reboot. Story was kinda silly, the combat is fun early but gets extremely annoying by later stages, the areas, music and general ambience was absolutely amazing though.

The feeling you get when you first sneak into Helena, the wind brushing the leaves once you escape into the forest and can catch your breath, so many moments that stick with you, but also hearing additions for the 500th time kinda breaks your brain. HARPOOOOOOONNNN.
