Am I crazy for thinking no gpu is worth that much money unless your profession demands it? Like I paid $1k for the 3090 founders edition in a time where GPUs were available in a lottery and still thought it was too much.

Do NOT buy that PNY card you’ll regret it. Cheap fans, grinding and ticking out of the box on fan #3 furthest from I/O. Tons of guys talking about it that own it, I was affected too myself. 5080s do it as well. There’s no fix, they’ll send you multiple rma/warranty cards that do the same thing. People tore them apart and discovered the fans are no name china junk, different than whatever was on all the previous gen cards.

Why did GPUs get so expensive?

The duality of PCMR. Complains about 5090 connectors, wants to buy 5090.
In my gaming days the top of the line GPU was about $500
I was rich then so I would get the best GPU every year since even the top of the line GPU could not run Crysis or Metro 2033 properly
But for some reason $2300 for a GPU seems just stupid for me, even if I was rich
