AMD claims most gamers “have no use for more than 8GB” of VRAM, after new Radeon GPU launch

They knew it would not be received well. They barely even promoted it. They should of just silently launched it and moved on.

  2. Touaregwarriors

Yes, I too love watching my characters die in choppy slow mo.

  3. alicefaye2

Resident evil two remake was released in 2019 and that exceeded the VRAM requirements at the highest settings. It’s now five years later and those requirements have only gotten worse and now they’re saying that 8 gigabytes is enough? I like AMD’s cards but this is a bunch of nonsense. 12 GB is barely enough at 2K, loads of us play at 4K now.

  4. MelvinSmiley83

Frank Azor recently also claimed that the 9070 XT and 9070 will be widely available at MSRP after launch. This guy is such a habitual liar and an absolute joke, I don’t trust anything that comes out of his mouth.

  5. Theyre going to have to convince the devs to really optimize their games for amd hardware then.

AMD’s ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory must be scientifically studied at this point.

  7. ghostpicnic

AMD must still be using internet explorer at their offices

  8. DoomSayerNihilus

It’s like saying 30 fps is more cinematic.

  9. w_StarfoxHUN

Also most gamers dont want to spend 300 usd for 8 gigs either. In 2025, for 200 usd one can make this argument. For 300, nah.

I think people here tend to underestimate how much of the population of PC gamers are using a laptop or pre-built with an entry level GPU to play Fortnite, Marvel Rivals and occasionally Microsoft Solitaire Collection at 1080p60

  11. iAmGats

If these 8gb GPUs were priced accordingly there wouldn’t so much hate towards them.

  12. tylan4life

Honestly, yeah. The average PC gamer is probably using whatever came with the computer from BestBuy. Maybe they upgraded to something modern at the time in the $400-600 range.

Only purists or hard-core players like you guys care about card specs. Keep up the good work though, I love watching those 4k MSFS ultra quality 4090ti videos (my monitors only 1440p).

  13. bardicjourney

Amd will probably point to some poll that doesn’t sort out mobile from other gamers and call it proof.

  14. ZaLeqaJ

We wouldn’t need it if Devs would programm their Game better and optimize it.

  15. Heptanitrocubane57

Most gamers use 4g and 8g and don’t need much more because they can’t afford a build using a beefier card fully to begin with or have no interest in building a beefy rig.

They aren’t wrong. But. Not offering the option is a dick move. And. Given that it will be very likely overpriced as hell, that’s a DICK move.

  16. zenstrive

    Well, statistically, he’s not wrong.

But he’s not reading the room right, and totally not thinking forward.

  17. 8GB is fine, I keep a notebook handy to jot down the 0s and 1s that don’t fit.

  18. cursorcube

When the Arc B580 is 12GB there is absolutely no reason for anyone to get any of these

  19. Historical-Bend6079

    They are right
In China or India, a lot of players play in 1080p

  20. Kalel100711

I’m in the minority here but I’m inclined to agree. Most gamers play only mainstream games like fortnite, call of duty and 2k. They don’t need much more than 8gb. I fancy myself an enthusiast and it’s super rare I ever reach above 10gb on vram on my 7800xt at 1440p even on higher settings

  21. CatatonicMan

They’re including phone gamers in that count, no doubt.

  22. digitalsmoker

Lol playing warzone @ 1440 high eating 13-14Gb of VRAM 😭😭😭

  23. ignoring AMD’s unfathomable ability to actually do good even when its literally handed to them on a silver plate:

Do you think that today’s games can be optimized to be playable on cards with low vram? I am very uneducated on this topic, but do you think of instead of relying on these greedy hardware companies to provide usable hardware, focusing on optimizing for lower spec hardware would be a cool priority for upcoming games (and today’s games), This would allow for more players with older hardware to buy your game instead of being locked out because you have to choose rent over buying a 90xx or 50xx card.

again I know game development and optimization isn’t my strong suit and I’m sorry for the ignorance on the topic but hoping your triple AAA game company would adopt what i’m describing would be cool

  24. flour_tortilla_

Doom The Dark Ages literally recommends 10GB of VRAM

  25. DrIvoPingasnik

My fucking God, AMD can you stop being huge fuckwits FOR FIVE MINUTES?

Huge opportunity to fuck over Nvidia and win goodwill of gamers.

    And now, fucking this.

I mean, I am a fuckwitted old git, but even I am not as dumb as AMD right now.

Did they hire ex-nvidia marketing twits?

  26. BlackTarTurd

Bro, the god damn PS5 has more VRAM than a significant amount of modern GPUs. 8gb is not enough for modern gaming, at all. Period.

  27. triadwarfare

If Nvidia and AMD moves the standard to 12 or 16GB, devs will stop optimizing for 8GB cards and will start requiring high VRAM cards as a *minimum*

  28. rrd_gaming

Amd is using internet explorer 1.0 for survey.

  29. Taipens

And its true, the problem is the price tag

  30. DietQuark

I don’t see my ram going above 12gb atm.

  31. AnxietyPretend5215

Wasn’t the AMD guy saying that most world wide gamers are still on 1080p playing strictly esports titles and this particular GPU is for them. Not that most gamers have no need for more. Specifically, they’re making this card because they believe there is a market for it.

This feels like incredibly click baited title/post.

  32. thanosbananos

Gamers online when NVIDIA says that: 😡

Gamers when AMD says that: 🥰

  33. Brometheus6

Most gamers have no use for AMD gpus

  34. mynameajeff69

The over reaction is insane. The guy told no lies. Then also said hey if 8gb isn’t enough we made a 16gb variant. I see zero issues with any of that???

  35. ZeXaLGames

i dont understand why GN or ltt or hardware unboxed kinda praise the card but completely shit on the nvidia rtx 5060 just because it also only has 8gb

  36. stuyboi888

They are right, they are not selling to the enthusiast but selling to the majority who still have a 1080p display. This is even more clear by the fact they are not selling a flagship model this generation

Why are people getting so up in arms a out this who cares, buy a 9070 or 7900.

All moaning about it does is give them more press

  37. Skiddywinks

Are they right? Is 1080P not still the most common resolution?

Whether most gamers need 8GB or not though, charging that kind of money for an 8GB card is just wrong.
