They could’ve at least given it another name if they’re going to have two versions.

  2. EscapeTheBlank

Yes, yes, there will always be people who don’t need more than that. And there will always be people who need more than that. If they simply released a 9060 with 8GB and 9060XT with 16GB then people would probably not have an issue with that. But alas, greed and confusion.

  3. alezcoed

We always joked where AMD despite having so many marketing advantage over Nvidia they always somehow fucked it up

We all rejoice when the 9000 series release because somehow AMD didn’t fuck it up

    Boy we were wrong

  4. I mean they really aren´t wrong about it.. statistically speaking. Most people are on 1080p, chilling on 6core cpus with 16 gb ram while not playing AAA titles.

8gb cards are perfectly fine for that if the price is okay.

  5. CarnivoreQA

but hey it is the good saint amd so they will get a minor reprimand by the community and be left alone

  6. thisonegamer

    This is the truth

Not everyone plays the latest AAA slop

    Not everyone owns a 4K 360Hz monitor

Not everyone plays with ray tracing on

Not everyone has enough money to buy high tier GPU

Down vote this all you want but this is a truth

  7. jermygod

do those people need new card at all? why not to play on 6600 then?

  8. Minute_Role_8223

a 12 gb version would have been dope, but i think most people have the wrong idea that everyone’s playing on 4K full settings. which isn’t the case

  9. LowCost_Gaming

Really missed the opportunity to rise above Nvidia, in terms of product offerings and marketing opportunities.

We could have seen a return of Sega vs Nintendo style marketing campaigns.

  10. John_Doe_MCMXC

If NVIDIA had explained it this way, r/pcmasterrace would be frothing at the mouth. The AMD bias is painfully obvious.

  11. payagathanow

I’d believe it if a 5 year old game didn’t give me memory warnings when playing above high settings.

  12. stormArmy347

Consider this like the 4GB RX 480/580. Might be an option for e-sports or for those that play older games, but only on a super deep discount.

  13. Not_Yet_Italian_1990

    They could have:

    1. Just shut the fuck up and enjoyed their status as the company that offers more VRAM than their competitor, generally.
    2. Have just called the “RX 9600 XT 8GB” an “RX 9600.”

Both would’ve worked. Instead they’ve gone full Nvidia and wasted a lot of their goodwill.

  14. dublin20

250$ – call it 9050XT or 9060SE or whatever and we would be happy

  15. AdamantiumAss

    Azor once again speaking BS

Even if it is true, it doesn’t change the fact that doing this will screw low budget gamers.

Even if 80% of gamers are mostly playing esports games, these same people will eventually wanting to play AAA games. The best option is to have the ONLY best option at reasonable price entry for the low budget gamers.

Thankfully we got Azor to say such BS, it’s the most visible way to criticize a company.

  16. Until they do infact need more. Ridiculous for anyone to release 8GB cards in 2025, and worse to defend it.

  17. life_konjam_better

AMD : Gamers dont need more than 8Gb VRAM.

Also AMD : Look at our 16GB variant beating 5060 Ti 8GB.

  18. AlmoranasAngLubot69

I maybe a Radeon fan but boy they are delusional, are they out of touch? So many reviewers already proved that 8 gb isn’t enough these days.

  19. P3DR0T3

Jayztwocents has made a few videos explaining the exact opposite that more Vram is better

  20. Guilty_Rooster_6708

AMD has never been a good guy. Can’t believe this but please save us Intel you’re our only hope

  21. Arcticfox04

Snatching the defeat from the jaws of victory.

  22. Rady151

Wait, weren’t the AMD fanboys tearing 5060 for having only 8GB VRAM, well, well, well.

  23. Moidada77

Should be cheaper then….and have a different name

  24. Darkomax

Of course it’s from Frank Bullshit Azor.

  25. How much adding 8 gigs costs in scales they producing? $10….maybe even $8. YOU DON’T NEED THAT!!!111

  26. andrzej-l

I’m a patient gamer and I use pretty old HW with 6GB VRAM and play on 1080p. I encountered a game that would crash due to lack of VRAM, and several cases of higher graphic setting being unavailable due to lack of VRAM. I’m pretty sure the same experience will be soon common on 8GB VRAM cards. With prevailing lack of optimization in games buying new GPU with 8GB VRAM now is very shortsighted. It might work fine if you are playing mostly multiplayer games with low graphic fidelity, but is there any sense to limit your options in the future for 50$ savings?

These cards exist only to be put in prebuilds that will try to hide the information that it is only 8GB version included.

  27. Short_11

People who play old eSports games, like Volorant or Overwatch, don’t need 2025 GPU.
They can play them fine with some old Rrx2060 Super.

2025 GPU, especially at 300$ ( !! ), must be able to run 2025 games.
Does the 230$ Rx580 was designed in 2017 with the purpose to only run 2012 eSports games ? No, this gpu could run modern 2017 games very good. Its wasn’t the purpose then, it’s not the purpose today.

If this card only purpose to is run old eSports games, the price sould be 150-170$ accordingly.

  28. PatternActual7535

Almost certain there is one main reason this card exists

Makes the 9060 XT 16GB look much better (marketing wise) by being “only 50USD more”

  29. szczszqweqwe

Translation: “majority of gamers have no idea about GPUs or don’t have enough money to get our better products”

  30. baconborn

Once again, AMD’s Radeon division proves that they are dead set on following Nvida’s lead. Whatever secret sauce they have on the CPU side, management or engineering of funding or a combination of those and/or other factors, they need to get some of that going on the Radeon side. With Nvidia going movie-level villain, we need an actually competitive alternative more than ever.

  31. NurglesArmpit

So many gaming fails recently lol, think I am done with modern PC gaming,

  32. Reynolds1029

Does everyone forget that this is completely status quo in the industry and hasn’t changed for decades?

When I bought my RX 480, I knew there was an 8GB varient and a 4GB one and I made sure to opt for 8GB for a little more and certainly don’t regret it as it still works great in my Plex server today.

When I got my Radeon HD 7870, I cheaped out for the 2GB model instead of the 4GB model and regretted it, but still knew there was a difference.

In fact, board partners used to make their own varients with different VRAM amounts on the same model. That remained until Nvidia put a stop to it because they wanted to artificially choke their next gen mid range offerings. Like the RTX 3070 for example that could be just as good as a 2080TI but typically isn’t because 8GB limitation.

  33. leanerwhistle

Whatever about the naming, but given inflation and slow down of Moore’s law, do we really expect new things to be the same price or less expensive than old things? I don’t get articles that make this comparison in this way.
I get that the memory capacity is the same as the RX480, but at least it is faster memory and more bandwidth. RDNA4 is clearly a huge improvement.
I guess it will be interesting to see benchmarks and how this sells.

  34. Ahmadv-1

Well Monster hunter wilds which released this year has textures NOT LOADED because there isn’t enough vram when using a 8GB Card even on upscaled 1080p from 720p at medium settings

I guess majority of gamers didn’t play the biggest release in 2025 until now, capcom biggest game ever was just ghosts who played the game on release?

  35. Carter1599

I might be a shill but aren’t the sorta right? Most people don’t wanna jump to 4k or 2k and I’m sure it will have some market for some people despite it likely selling at over MSRP by a good margin

  36. AliceLunar

If you have 8GB today you are probably fine in the vast majority of cases, but you don’t buy a graphics card for just today, you buy it for years to come, and I would not buy a card today with 8GB unless that’s some crazy price/performance offer.

  37. Excellent-Hamster234

I just bought a 6700xt for 200€ how is this shit still a thing?
