I remember dying to this guy insanely fast but didn’t really think nothing of it, fast forward 2 days later and I get a message saying he’s banned for playing unfairly but only got a 7 day ban and no rank reset. Why is this?

I think it goes 3 days, 7days, 14 days, permanent.
… then inevitably they make a new account and do it again because they lack the skill to play fairly.
He was probably playing with a cheater giving him enemy location info and the cheater got the 10 years ban while people who played more than once with the cheater got 7 days. You died “Insanely fast” because he was aware of your location and pre-fired. 7 days ban are automated, review videos only hand out 10 years ban so during those 2 days his friend was caught red handed.
