Bungie execs reportedly killed Destiny 2 subscription service as management “prioritised monetisation over player experience”

The amount they charge for any expansion and what amounts to a mandatory battle pass ought to cover it anyway.

Water is wet, and the sky is blue. More statements from captain obvious at 11.

Destiny 2 was so good when I started playing. Over a 2 year period it just got worse and worse until it was more like having a second, extra shitty job than playing a game.

Just for the record; This is not just a Bungie thing. The devs are always fighting tooth and nails so the higher ups doesn’t fill their game with crappy practices. At the end of the day they are devs because they play games too, and know too well those kind of practices. I feel so bad for such a talented team to be weighted down by horrible management

The title is slightly misleading. The execs tried to force destiny to become subscription module and the Devs said “No”.

Imagine where the game could be if they approached the game like DE does with Warframe…

I’d be shocked if Bungie continues to remain independent by the end of this year… Seems like someone at Sony needs to step in and take over before the whole company implodes due to poor management.

Greed will consume everyone eventually. I’m happy to support companies that just want to put out a good product.

  9. I wish I could say this is a unique case in today’s gaming but so many developers are doing this. My wife is a Sims fan. Each expansion of Sims 4 is more than most single games, it’s ridiculous. Sims 3 at least had the courtesy to feel like a game on its own but for Sims 4, they’re so petty that they split their traditional Halloween pack into three different $10-$30 packs.

I love my wife but I eventually told her to budget that s*** herself.

I’m old enough to remember when bungee was amazing. Small company making great content and just absolutely loving what they did. They have fallen so far.

  11. Cannot wait to for the Bungie execs to see the response to Marathon.

They could do both like Europa Universalis or Europa Universalis. Let people to buy individual expansions or a subscription that includes all expensions.

    Win-win for everybody.

    This reads
“Bungie execs out of reach with core demographic.”

If Marathon was packaged as a faction competition in destiny, like I worked for dead orbit not sure why they flatlined.

Then my guardian would report to the tower.
    But “…”

And yet the player base will defend D2 till they die. what a trash game, truly sad as D1 ended on such a good note.

  15. Sounds right. I feel bad for the people that eork on destiny. Its a fun game but the monetization is nuts. Sooooo greedy. 100% beleive theyd try to make it a sub game. I know they say its not the case but i honestly think lightfall and witchqueen were supposed to be 1 xpac but the higher ups had a “great idea” where theyd split it into 2 xpacs and sell em for 2 separate xpacs.

I fell like paying for the seasons is like a subscription

it feels weird to see how fast Bungle went from everyone’s favorite developer to just the worst, like I know it’s been a steady downward spiral for several years, but it still feels like yesterday when all I played was Halo 3 after school and I remember how sad everyone was that they just left Halo behind after Reach, and Halo’s community still constantly cries about how much better everything was with Bungie back in the day and everywhere else you look Bungie just gets one negative headline after another, like removing actual paid playable content from Destiny and the stolen art scandal in Marathon, it just never ends

what the fuck happened to them

  18. Captain-Hooligan

I would have played this game but why on earth did they remove old story quests when new expansion came out? I get that it’s probably to save drive space but what do they expect new players to think of the story when you get thrown into a random encounter talking to people like they are your best friend. Just so crazy to me to just remove content.

A subscription instead of crap we got would have been a much better deal.

Like I’ve said for years, only Bungie could kill Destiny. Played this game since the 1st came out. Had some good moments met some cool people that I consider friends. But after last year, the bull shit that was happening on there. No, no more. I left that toxic relationship lol
