Another day, another dumb article about this very dumb bill.

Sadly there isn’t much time left on this and it’s likely to fail, due in part to massive disinformation about what this initiative actually was from people weirdly invested in letting developers keep the rights to take away our games whenever they feel like it.

  3. Yeah, I don’t like owning a game and then having the dev just take it away. Frankly, I won’t support any dev’s that do this, hence why I will not buy any destiny games and I won’t support bungie.

Sunsetting of paid content is why I’ll never ever pay for any more Bungie content.

I’m not an EU citizen, but I do support the general idea. IMO, there needs to be a few simple “rights” for gamers.

    1. If you buy a digital game, it’s the same as buying a physical copy. You own it, and can resell it, it’s not just a long-term rental.
    2. If a game is online only and the company wants to shut down the servers, they should be required to put the server binaries up for download and allow anyone to run their own private server. Think Minecraft or Counter-Strike. The game client should also receive one final update allowing the player to search for these private servers and connect to them instead of the old method of going through some online service like those from Microsoft and Sony.
    3. When console makers EOL a particular generation, they should be required to issue one final update that unlocks the bootloader and hypervisor allowing full root access to the hardware.
    4. When a developer and/or publisher stop selling a particular game, it immediately goes into the public domain. As long as they’re selling the game, they’re obliged to support it, such as making sure it continues to work on new operating system releases.
    5. No more kernel level DRM bullshit like Denuvo unless they’re willing to accept any and all legal and financial liability for any potential losses that may result from bugs in their software. When Sony pulled this shit a decade or two ago, people were rightfully pissed off about it, and they should still be pissed off about it. It’s a massive security risk for every person who has it installed.

This makes me sad to see how we are treated and seen when we are the ones that keep them in business.
