I’ve been playing this map for a while and never once until I just looked up close out of curiosity did I get startled seeing these human heads in these containers on the backstage of Kino Der Toten behind the projector screen at the Nazi theatre. I know there’s all these recordings you hear of the possible Nazi scientist talking about all this experimentation they were doing on these men breaking through into their subconscious and other things. What are these exactly then? Another Easter egg?

It’s the Nova crawlers
In addition to the nova crawlers, I’m pretty sure it’s also a reference to Return Of The Living Dead, the outbreak is started by the zombies, (from the original Night of the living Dead), getting released from those same containers
Those are group 935 test subjects, who are used for experimentation. Those containers are fore safe transport. (You can even find some on Shangri La)
You do not want to end up in one of those.
If you look to the right of the stage, you can find one that’s broken open and whatever’s inside has escaped.
They’re the test subjects Group 935 were trying to control in order to build an undead army for the Nazis. You can hear the experiments on one of the subjects (patient 2-6) in the five radio recordings on this map. They tried to give the test subjects some form of treatment combined with short films (you can also play some of these in Kino) in an attempt to control the mind.
They did get pretty close, but patient 2-6 was unable to retain his ‘controlled’ mind and reverted back to his zombie instincts, and attacked a handler. A full outbreak occurred at the Kino facility shortly after.
My memory may be off but I thought the models inside were monkeys? Hinting at ascension though those monkeys are far smaller.( edit. I think i was correct. The bo1 model does look like a chimp) the bo3 model however looks more human.
