The thing that sucks about it being ahead of its time is that it *really* was ahead of its time. Not in the sense that it was visionary, as that phrase is often used, but in the sense that the tech they had to make the game was not up to par with what they were trying to make.
If they took the same ideas and made it using newer technology, I think this game could have made a MUCH larger splash, especially with regards to its narrative, which was often undercut by the inability to adequately portray the events in as dramatic a fashion as the script demanded.
It is one of my favorite games of all time, and it is sad to see it stuck in the almost-forgotten parts of history, especially given how it is the grandfather of so, so, so many amazing games along with FFT. (A lot of the ideas, and especially the art style, that eventually made their way into all of the Ivalice games originated with Vagrant Story, including some aspects of FFXIV.)
Rythm fighting
By far my favorite opening scene in any video game. You just couldn’t beat that cinematic, especially for the time imo. And the combat system was so ambitious and awesome, I really wish and think a remaster could properly refine it. This game oozed atmosphere in the best way, from the awesome sound design, to the little fucking bats always squeaking at you lol. God I loved this game.
I LOVE this game… so underappreciated with customization that was ahead of it’s time. One of the greatest soundtracks on the PS1 also… a shame it didn’t do better. As much as I loved it, it needed remastering when it came out…Should have been delayed and launched on PS2.
Need more ivalice games.
Great game when I played it at launch, but it looks like ass these days. It would seriously benefit from upscaling and anti aliasing, because it’s so jaggy af. I’d buy a remaster for sure.

Combat system is kinda broken. Block puzzles aren’t interesting to anyone anymore.
Vagrant Story because polygons need love too, not just triangles and textures.
Final Fantasy 2 and its seemingly out of place leveling system is what really needs a remaster. It has a really awesome story hidden behind some grindy mechanics.
Refreshing to see Vagrant Story on here, a lot of people want a remastering of Xenogears, that’s what comes to my mind when we talk about PSX specific RPG remasters.

I’ve been playing expedition 33 and the timed chain combos reminded me of this game.
Between Vagrant story and final fantasy tactics, I can’t decide which was the better ps1 title.
That 90s SquareSoft aesthetic is nostalgic heroin. This and Saga Frontier’s case art make me feel all warm and fuzzy.

They remade the first two Front Missions, this game begs for it.
But give it the whole FF7 remake treatment, same enough to feed nostalgia, different enough to feel fresh.

This game had such an amazing vibe but suffered imo because of the limitations of the console it was released on.

I’m not a fan of remastering. The original is out there and it’s excellent. They’re going to improve the textures and sell the same thing.
I’d prefer the money went to a new thing that might become the new Vagrant Story.

This is easily the best game of all time. So many fond memories playing this. Maybe one day we will get to see a sequel or remaster.
I really hate how square-enix never gave Matsuno the support he always deserved.
Final Fantasy VIII has such great atmosphere and music and iconic characters. I wish that everything else was executed better. It’s at the top of my list of games that need to be remade. Also, there’s a certain fan theory that’s so cool it needs to be canonized…

Art of low resolution sprites in this was incredible
