I finally got the final 2 shards today. I'm still iffy about it because I saw alot of people saying not to exchange it and to cash on the shards for the next legendary. Do I really need to wait on it for more shards?

Your choice. I had 60 extra shards so i got mine. It depends on if you can live with it for two weeks.
I didn’t i have 535 shards
We don’t know how tokens will be next season
We know for sure that we’ll be able to exchange extra shards for “universal shards”
So it’s up to you, collecting shards will for sure give you a head start but if you redeemed the gun you’ll only get tokens and camo boxes
Camo boxes are good for Battle Pass XP but we still don’t know about tokens
They said there will be a new “S5 cache” with the new legendary Ak47 and they said the current tokens will be reset but they didn’t explicitly say that there will be a new “s5 token”. If not then the tokes will help you grind the token battle pass quicker
