  1. The “undead” hyrule market area was scary af. They added on top the screaming noise when spotted by the zombies

90s 3D graphics is way more disturbing and scary than todays realistic one in my opinion – especially when we talk about scary stuff in games

For me it was finding the first zombie in the original Resident Evil. I was about 8 when I first played it, shit gave me nightmares for a while 😂

Clanker; even though he’s a sweetheart.

Snacker the shark; very much not a sweetheart.

the cover of the Twisted Metal games used to scare the shit out of me. my older brother would leave them face up under our couch pillows sometimes

  6. LordVulpix

What’s the one in the bottom 2nd from the left? I recognize the rest.

  7. TheNicholasRage

Getting chased by Carnage-Ock in the first Spider-Man game has left me with a deep fear of being pursued.

Zelda: Ocarina Of Time definitely deserves its multiple entries in this. As a 9 year old, this game scared the pants off of me. It took me over a year to even pick the game up again after a Lizalfos came after me. And they didn’t even get pictured on here.

And that snake in Super Mario 64 was actual terror.

  9. CelticSith

Was worried for a moment when I didnt see the resident evil window dog at first

  10. Those dogs jumping through the window in RE1 actually scared me the first time, and I wasn’t even the one playing.

The Sonic low air music still plays in my head any time I hold my breath.

  12. The_Perfect_Fart

The Home Alone game gave me so much anxiety…

  13. Kamina_cicada

Headcrab from Half Life. When the first one lunged at me, it scared the shit out of me. I had nightmares about that thing for weeks.

  14. KitsuneDawnBlade

If you add a screenshot of the Sims you had to take the weeping clown or moving Garden gnome instead.

  15. lvl99Demon

What about the hand from Blood?
    That choking animation…

  16. I think the dancing ReDeads were more scary than the regular ones

  17. For me, it wasn’t the eel in SM64. It was the totally dead, abandoned city inside of Wet-Dry World on the other side of the tunnel.

  18. i literally had nightmares about the witch in banjo kazooie for the N64.

  19. Ah yes… the Kakariko well in Ocarina of Times.

I remember going down there and then instantly nope-ing out. I spend like another 200h of gameplay roaming the world until I was 100% sure I had to go down there for that damn Lens of Truth.

But honorable mentions are the Wampas in Shadows of the Empire and the Boss in the sewer level…

  20. The_Deku_Nut

Not quite 90s, but Zombies Ate My Neighbors was absolutely the scariest shit I’d ever played.

The scariest part was the difficulty, if you died it took forever to grind back to where you were.

  21. Out3rSpac3

The eel in super Mario 64 combined with the draining oxygen was just too much for my child anxiety lol

  22. JD_Unlimited

I completely forgot about getting robbed in The Sims. That was like my biggest fear as a kid lol.

  23. Nothing used to make my heart pound faster than Sonic running out of air underwater

  24. reddfawks

Just missing the Mario 64 Piano, Andross’ Brain, and Vortex Queen from Ecco. (Also it wasn’t for kids, but the scenes in Parasite Eve when she melts the audience into orange jello and preggo-Eve are burned into my brain)

Now if you excuse me, I’m gonna assume the fetal position and sob.

  25. MrSaucyAlfredo

Where’s the one face of the girl from Kirby 64 when she turns all evil
