Isn't the monitor arm just straight up better? It leaves more space on the desk.

  1. Because one is about flair and the other about quality?

  2. Most likely depends on tournament organizer, and pros have never complained that this was an issue, or else it would have been changed, just open any pro’s twitch stream, almost all of them are using the default stand.

I will also add that we have seen instances where monitors had to be changed right before or during a match. Most monitor stands use a quick release system and swapping them is just a push of a button. With arms you have to unscrew the bracket from the back and reassembly is also a bit more complicated because of that.

Riot Games setups their stages in a way where participants are facing one another with limited to no partitions. Monitor arms are used to securely fasten the monitor to the desk.

There are probably a million reasons, but the biggest being: why fix what isn’t broken?

I’m sure the pros have been using monitor stands their whole lives, it’s not going to inconvenience them in the slightest. It might even be easier for them, since they can set it up the same way every time, where a monitor arm is harder to set up exactly the same way.

Some have used them, it literally just depends on the tournament organisers

Depends on TO. JBa mentioned how he had to get used to playing with out the stand at tournaments.

Well BenQ has been the monitor sponsor in CS for as long as I can remember. The stands have markings in each axis which allow the position to be easily replicated, a feature monitor arms lack. I personally used to find a monitor arm allowed for slightly better mouse positioning that would otherwise hit the stand, but I use a stand right now and it’s perfectly fine because it has a small base. Given the monitors come with stands, not arms, and the pros have been using the same brand for years, I wouldn’t see any reason to start using monitor arms all of a sudden. I think it’s just standardisation across all setups where possible.

  9. Doesn’t really change much tbh. Monitor arm is technically better for desk space, but a lot of pros also set up their stuff in a specific position using the monitor stand (keyboard lined up against it, stand to the bottom of the desk, etc)

Almost every pro uses the stand to setup and lineup their keyboard/mousepad. Super helpful to get all the numbers down and repeat 1-1 for every setup. As you can see in the picture, the stand has numbers for height adjustment on the side, as well as for tilt andswivel which also helps get consistent placement. This is also a reason why lots of pro perfer zowie (beside the colors and such).

  11. If you put a monitor arm on the crappy tables most TO’s build poorly at X new location they use each week the monitor would be rocking up and down and side to side like crazy at every low sense mouse movement.

I’d guess Valorant studio has a more permanent and solid setup that makes it more acceptable.

CS is rooted in tradition (unsurprisingly), so pros won’t mind using the exact same stand as they do at home. Also, the zowie stand has marks and catches on the stand so you can set it up exactly the super easily.

  13. i’d argue that the arm is worse because you can’t exactly place it the way you would your own monitor, i would imagine that playing with that arm always just feels slightly off

Valorant – tournament is held in specific regions/studios by riot

CS: tournaments are held in various regions by multiple tournament organisers, including the majors

Most tournament organizer gets these monitors from sponsors so they take the offer that gives more money.

  16. because they are stupid, there is no going around it, those arms are a blessing i got 1 and it was already a game changer but i have 2 monitors and i dont think 2 days passed and i bought a second one, anyone saying anything else is just an excuse… they are without a doubt a very good thing and should be a standard.
