They wont have to do much. Just let the industry use AI all they want until their sales crash and burn and they have to shut down because they think they can replace everyone down to the devs with AI. Things will land precisely where they have to.

I only know of one released game that uses AI voices and it went with the ethical approach.

it is difficult because I just read about a happy woman whos voice should be used for Audio Books she did not even think about it – she was proud.

Yea I’m for real people getting VA jobs but none of us are in charge of that. And companies won’t listen to consumers before they go this route, only after.
And then they’ll only think about how much the shareholders will save in the long run due to not having to pay real people, or the people leading the investors will just say how eventually it’ll be pure profit with AI making games and voicing them. And if investors are dumb enough to follow (like they already are with every food delivery app/ride share losing money just waiting for the moment human workers can be subsidized with robots so the profit margins go up)
I will support voicing animosity towards Ai voices in games… but I will not join the rest of all the BS that SAG Aftra is pulling. Hell no. And those entitled VAs that attack fellow VAs or their respective community after finding out about all the crap… yeah good luck.
Doubt even the MC can turn that shit around.

Unfortunately, the current strike has evolved into a monopolization scheme disguised as an anti-AI movement. I definitely don’t want any VAs’ livelihood to be harmed by AI, but I’m not supporting a mafia gang.

Saw Steve last year at Torg in Columbus. What a great guy, he spent extra time with me and my family during a signing (and he walked through the lines talking to fans and making it a fun experience for everyone).
We need more great people like him in games… Not less.

Voice acting, from what I’ve always heard, is one of the most non inclusive jobs out there. You’re either known or you’re famous or you don’t get work. Why would the people out there be worried about helping something that is infamous for being uppity and locked to the masses? And they are fully against the use of AI. Change variations in a voice to sound just as good, and you end up with optimus prime without using his exact voice and now you have a new transformers game or cartoon and no one cries.
They aren’t worried about misuse. They’re worried about being replaced and they will likely be at some point. Just put the ai through activing training and hire the acting coaches to train future models. Now you have full voice actors.
Protections for actors against AI are essential. Their work has enriched this industry for decades; if their livelihoods are under threat then we owe it to them to stand up for their rights.
SAG AFTRA strike has become an opportunistic power grab.
After all the negative drama that has been going on recently with the ENG VA sphere, I’m surprised he’s even asking.
Maybe this is a doomer take but if MASTER CHIEF can’t do shit about it, tf are we supposed to do 😭 they are still getting sales, people can’t boycott for more than a week, and most of the money isnt even made on the base games anymore, just millions and millions of dollars in microtransactions for funny colored armour. They dont even need chief no more 😔😔😔
