article is dumb as fuck.
1. He said only one guy came back, Nakatsu. and blaming the mistakes on the “new team” which seemingly the soul calibur team, not a bunch of intern. Whether or not they still have a job is not mentioned.
2. “the Season 2 update released with over 1500 changes, many of which didn’t function as intended and literally broke the game.” it was PERFECTLY intended and functioned perfectly. The dev intention was just dumb. They choose to make the game look cool with all the trick and shit, to attract people who dont understand game and think that’s cool. But for people who actually play it’s plain shit.
3. All of these, are in line with the way things have been going since mid way though tekken 7, which the Nakatsu guy were properly in charge back then. that most likely meant that this is his intended vision too. Harada can twist his word and blaming some faceless team. If you want an example, look at early version of Leeroy and Fahkumram in T7 when they were just released. It was exactly what terrible about tekken 8. Fahkumram were also just announced as the next DLC for T8, all to confirm that the current state of the game is what they planned from the start.

So I guess not a lot of people here actually play Tekken or are informed in the community. Some comments are correct, but I can help make things make more sense.
Tekken 7 had its ups and downs, but largely followed the same formula as its predecessor until a couple characters were introduced (Akuma, Fahkuram, Kunimitsu II), who kind of forced interactions or heavy damage mixups, which wasn’t favoured.
Then Tekken 8 comes, and while defence was made better via sidestepping (it’s a 3D game) and back dashing, so too were characters equipped with more moves than the previous games, but not only that, they all gained a mechanic called Heat.
Heat has since gone through a few much needed changes, but the TLDR of it is it’s a pseudo-install state every character has. It helps extend combos (sometimes to egregious extents), force more mixups/interactions, and factor in as another comeback mechanic as the Heat state aids in recovering health (there is now chip damage in T8).
Season 1 was a better balance than what we have now, but still required some tuning, and the general outlook of Heat isn’t well loved.
Now Season 2 come along, and we were either lied to intentionally or unintentionally, but one way or another we were lied to. Harada (the creator of Tekken), mentioned the next season would bring more defensive options to a game where most players agreed needed it. What happens instead is the opposite.
They added moves to account for individual characters weaknesses, thereby removing counterplay and uniqueness, and made more changes that were so questionable they had to backpedal and say they’d reverse it, such as chip damage UPON BREAKING A THROW, because I guess it wasn’t enough reward for the thrower or something questionable.
Anyway. Now people hate the game for being lied to, made to be the villain, and generally given something nobody asked for. Harada is explaining why these things happened, and vows to fix them.
Will it happen? Who knows. But That’s where we are at
Edit: forgot to mention the payable shop and battle passes that launched a week after the game without much announcement. Featuring slightly updated versions of old costumes and formerly free items from previous games.
Add onto that the DLC stages, returning DLC characters (which IMO, was expected, but people hate it anyway), and you’ll learn that the hate was more of a compounding buildup, rather than a total ball drop all at once.

Can you please give me upvotes? I’m new to reddit, I’m creating a video game, I want to make a post about it but to post I need to have good comment karma. Can you please? 🙁
