Ray tracing is a tool which, like everything, can be implemented well or poorly. When implemented well, it creates a scene that allows for a more realistic look that takes care of reflections and things like completely accurate ambient occlusion.
The difference between real and screen space effects is night and day to me and still makes me marvel when I see it implemented properly into a game.
Properly implemented ray tracing simply improves everything about the lighting of a game.
However, as a tool it can be implemented poorly too. Implemented poorly it can rob a scene of artistic intention. You see this mostly in older games that have had ray tracing awkwardly added by someone other than the original developers. They’re usually too interested in making the ray tracing stand out and not worried about what it’s doing to the scene.
Real time ray tracing is still an emerging tech in its early days. It has its limitations and problems, but as time goes on, higher processing power and new techniques will make those go away.

Nah double GPU cards like the GTX 690 and R9 295X2 were pretty bad regardless of their prices.

RBG is so overrated. We really need simple binary pixels, off and on. Good enough for me

You can find these “hot takes” in literally EVERY post on this sub lmao. But people eat that shit up so more power to you I guess

the GT 210 exists and is just terrible even at the price of free

As I read the meme I first thought it was talking about UFC PPV cards lol.

Not every card is good, regardless of price. There are good and bad options at every price point.
Likewise there’s a best card at those price points too.
Ray tracing is now an entry level requirement for some games. That’s going to increase exponentially as the amount of work that has to be put into creating shaders is immense and raytracing does away with that.
Card pricing is pretty insane and is made worse by scalpers being allowed to run rampant.
Im currently on the fence on getting a 5090 for work or wait till the 60 series is out. Coz most likely gta6 comming out on pc will be in the following series

Agreed. I’ve made peace with 720p since 2014. Means lower end GPUs have been a dream for my wallet ever since.

Good for what?
Yea, a gtx 1050ti is great card for playing Microsoft flight simulator, if it’s only $20.
Makes zero sense. You buy a card to play certain games. It’s not a pair of jeans.
I agree mostly except for Ray Tracing, I used to think it wasn’t a big deal or just a gimmick but once you experience it for yourself it can visually transform a game. However it is very dependant on the game. On some games it does give it a visual lift and makes it look much nicer, others it kinda just shifts around the lighting and gives it a differently look and feel which feels more subjective. But take a game like Cyberpunk for instance, that game looks so much more lifelike with Ray Tracing. Anyway in time RT will become a much more standard/less taxing feature and the industry will move on to chasing Path Tracing or whatever the next thing is lol

If I ever see anyone say my rx 7600 was a bad choice, I will send them this post

I agree with everything except the fact that there are bad cards… Like if they make a 50/60/70 class card that has no improvement from last gen besides software (looking at you MFG)
At that point just don’t make it and keep selling the older cards.

nah 8gb cards and the cards that easily go on fire are not good
Mowskyie

TBH hardware raytracing matters a lot more if you’re making games than playing them

But the problem starts when games force you to have ray tracing (doom dark ages), then you do need to consider Ray tracing
> Every card is a good card if priced right…
… not if it catches fire and explodes
> Ray tracing is just RGB lighting for your pixels.
Pixels are just RGB lights in the first place, so everything on your screen is RGB lighting for your pixels
There is not a single hot take in this image.
So you are trying to tell me that ray tracing would give me more fps? /s
Hot take we should get a new meme format for hot takes because this guy sucks
It’s kinda like when people say
“No one wants to work anymore ‘
Uh, no, people don’t want to work for crap wages and for places that fire you because a spreadsheet said they could save a nickel.
