It’d be nice if when I clicked on it I didn’t get 14 notifications

That fact that this launched in 2018 and is still nowhere close to having many of the BASIC quality of life features steam has is insane. How did it take 5 years to add reviews? If they spent half the money they used to give away free games on more developers/resources to actually make it a good store it might be in a better place.

  3. I don’t even bother reinstalling it whenever a free game drops just because of how long it takes to login and do simple things. Maybe it is different now, but the hassle is just not worth it. I even bought GTA 5 on Steam even though I have it on Epic.

“Or don’t work on your own thing and just use steam” – every gamer ever.

It’s been abysmal since it began, hasn’t gotten any better – why would anybody imagine they’ll make it better eventually after 6-7 years of ignoring everything their potential customers want & are explicitly telling them every day that they want?

I see no reason to switch to epic. Literally. I already have all my games on steam. I don’t want multiple programs with same purpose on my computer.

As long as the free games are coming, people won’t care. I have around 180titles from epic. Login once a week, add the games. Exit the app.

Steam launcher is designed for gamers, Epic launcher is designed for developers and publishers.

My biggest issue with it is how long it takes to load the page. I click on my library and it takes a really long time for the game banners to display. Also, if downloading games then other games settings stall out hard. It’s just so unresponsive and frustrating to use.

also it has NO community features, this can be seen as good but at least lemme get a profile picture bro ffs

I only just use it to get the free games. I doubt I’m the only one here that does this.

Every time I go back to this launcher they have made something more complicated without making it any better.

I swear I remember him speaking about this a few years back and saying how they will get it better.

    Well.. It hasn’t.

  14. jaaaaaaaaaaaag

Just give me the ability to move games between drives or restore from a local backup so I don’t have to sit and download everything when I change drives/reinstall the os

It so bizarre how all of these companies try to compete with Steam and seemingly pay no attention at all to what Steam does and why people like it.

  16. sofaking_scientific

They’ll sell to a private equity firm before being as good as steam. Calling it now

Well, since it just came out, it’s understandable that… wait, never mind, EGS has been out since 2018. 🤣😂

This is basically the first proper attempt to split apart the market, which on paper seems like a good idea because of competition. But just look at what happened with TV/ movie streaming services once Prime etc managed to muscle in on Netflix. They managed to make the overall experience much, much worse.

Instead of one hub that had everything, now we have 10 services that have each parcelled out the content between them in an ever shifting web of licences and IP packages.

While on paper having steam as the dominant force in games might seem like monopoly, they’ve repeatedly shown themselves to be trustworthy. And if even 2-3 other services arise that are just as good and act just as well, the net result will still be walled gardens and reduced usability.

I’m just not going to ever support them because they try to force exclusivity with certain games and actively took games off of Steam, including those that had been on there for years or had their page on Steam for months leading up to release.

I don’t have respect for shady artificial competition. In my point of view, platform exclusivity is the most garbage form of competition. The best games I’ve played throughout my life are all multi-platform. Compete by having a better product/service.

Not to mention, I can’t imagine it costs more to have your employees actually do their jobs and make a functioning platform than to continuously toss money at devs to keep them on Epic Exclusivity.

I have never and I mean never, bought a game off epic

  21. tmkn09021945

Fuck epic for it’s exclusives paid for by fortnight. You’ll never get my money

Just give up, it’s not happening.
