Context for the new zombie players:

After BO3’s final DLC in the fall of 2016 we thought it was the end of bo3 zombies life span………That was until spring of 2017 when the director of Treyarch zombies himself (Jason Blundell) went to a small YouTubers college apartment in Auburn Alabama to announce they were adding 8 remastered maps (Zombie Chronicles) and also a lore timeline guide.

It was so humble of Treyarch to choose a small zombie YouTubers channel to announce what I would say is the biggest zombies related event in history. I remember being in middle school and seeing the thumbnail of this video pop up on my feed during our the rumors. It was honestly one of the happiest parts of my life.

Chronicles made the rest of my summer. I was so sad once Revelations died of thinking I’d have to wait 3 years till another map dropped. I remember watching NoahJ be able to host Easter Eggs for charity 2 because of this massive DLC. That was my SuperBowl at the time.

For the older zombie players, what were your thoughts about they way Treyarch made this announcement?

I don’t exactly remember this tbh but have been playing a LONG time, just have a bad memory. My best memories are chopping it up on the COD Zombies forums with the likes of roflwaffles, infestlithium, et al and actually getting to play with them some.

It was great, as Jason said ” it was a love letter to fans”

This was an awesome moment, but I don’t hold it near and dear like some. As someone whose first zombie game was Bo1, it was awesome to see the majority of maps remastered. Unfortunately, Treyarch/Activision releasing classic cod guns and putting them behind a loot box system and not bringing most of them into zombies always soured the taste. A lot of zombie players were not fans of year 1 maps for Bo3 outside of DE, so it was actually nice to see the fan reception become positive with chronicles after lukewarm feedback from Revelations.

The best part of that video was when he pushes JC and says come on at the beginning

This and the build up to the release was the coolest shit. One of my favourite time periods in all of zombies.

The story trailer for this DLC still gets me 🥲 [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uTDtbs2jZ4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uTDtbs2jZ4)

Aaaaah! I forgot about that trailer! What a masterpiece.

  7. Yeah, I remember IW getting bashed before it even got its little jet pack feet off the ground and barely anyone playing the zombies because all the YouTubers kept bashing it and then the cherry on top was ZC releasing mid DLC cycle for IW leading to whatever map was newest at the time getting a record low amount of players and people still don’t think fondly of that map because they never went and played it again once it had settled in with the normal post launch bug fixes.

I miss Jason being apart of zombies so much. When he left, zombies has felt lifeless ever since.

It’s funny you bring this up as I was just thinking about the interview he did with Milo (RoflWaffles) around the same time where he was answering questions and saying there were Easter eggs still in bo2 that hadn’t even been found.

the whole build up to zombies chronicles was genuinely some of the best moments in the zombies community

I was fairly late to actually playing BO3. I got it in early 2019. But watching the Zombies Chronicles reveal on YouTube was something else. They had all the YouTubers reveal a map each week (or maybe it was every few days). It was SO GOOD!

I did play a bit of Der Eisendrache and Gorod Krovi back in 2017 at my cousin’s house, but not enough to really figure anything out.
