If they actually did anything the mod authors would provide the proof in their descriptions

This is very interesting. Just yesterday I was scrolling through Nexus and noticed all the ini tweaks/mods available for various games and was wondering how much testing actually goes into the average ini mod.
I mean, even if something genuinely improves performance on the author’s system, that’s hardly enough say those settings are a good match for all configs.
Hattix
I checked that out on Saturday, then did what nobody else seems to do.
Ran a performance test before installing it.
It made not a damn bit of difference running around Anvil so I removed it again.
UET does do things, but those things don’t impact performance and it’s all just ini file nonsense. It doesn’t get lower latency, it doesn’t reduce stuttering, it just disables a few post-effects which aren’t intensive to begin with. Doing grain or aberration was the kind of thing a GeForce 6600GT could do, trivially, back when OG Oblivion was the big thing (which didn’t use these effects).
LightyLittleDust
Yeah. I’m honestly baffled by how many people believe it actually does something. Didn’t do anything in my case, for sure.
HoordSS
Nexus is filled with people putting out .ini files that supposedly fixes performance and there might be like 2 whole files that actually do something.
The only reason people are pushing out those stupid files is cause Nexus mods rewards those “authors” with game keys, sometimes paypal payments and what most “mod authors” on Nexus wants, Lifetime premium without paying.
eugenebbb
I installed it yesterday. Had problems with black screen or freezes when travel through doors before. Sometimes when you just launch the game and go to nearest door or fast travel it just freezes. Had to restart pc each time. The patch fixed it for me. Performance-wise i do not see any improvement. Maybe the menu is snappier, idk. Fps dips as usual during travel.

The comments on the mod have some people providing their fps increases and are very happy, and some people see little to no difference.
I tried it and I went from 80 to 84fps in the same place.
I think these ini changes can be hardware dependent.
Now that said
KCD and KCD2
I saw MASSIVE FPS gains in those games, with engine.ini changes from mods like this.
Going from like 80fps to a 144fps in the main city in the first game.
You can literally change all the cryengine graphics settings including the ones that are managed in the game menu like shadow quality, which is very heavy.
I only skimmed that article but engine.ini changes are real.
This particular mod I don’t think is a placebo. I think DF might have just had a pc that didn’t benefit from the changes, or maybe they didn’t install it properly?
It doesn’t fix the stutters though, I can confirm that
ziplock9000
Indeed. I’ve said that on the comments page, but kids who don’t know how to do proper comparative tests still thinks it works.
AnthMosk
Do the same for Expedition 33!!
Gammler12345
And even if it boosts FPS a bit.
It doesn’t matter when the game stutters/has bad frame times.
Avg FPS is meaningless. Stable frame delivery is more important for the Performance feel.
Thedrunkenchild
I’ve always felt like all these anti-stutter mods are placebo, I’ve also tried the red read redemption 2 one but I never felt like it did anything at all. Obviously different games and different mods, but I’m always cautious when these miracle mods come out, especially so close to the release date of the game.
xGHOSTRAGEx
Did an Nvidia employee post a mod lol?
adkenna
So what fixed my stuttering and have me extra frames?
I know Lumen be gone 100% improves performance.
Some_Man23
Huh, so i wasn’t tripping when the mod did absolutely nothing

When Bethesda removed dlss a week ago these ini fixes reenabled dlss controls, that was usefull.
On my gf’s pc it made a pretty big difference when adapting some things in the ini. Taking a pc that can already run the remaster and messing with the ini likely isn’t going to give you dozens more frames but going from not running at all to running at 35 fps is a pretty big improvement imho.
I don’t care what the game journalists say, I’ve seen the difference.
mountainyoo
Best way to improve the game is using DLSS 4 and Nvidia Streamline 2.7.3 .dll’s along with updated 1.716.1 D3D12 .dll’s and then adding PerfOptions in the registry.
That .ini file actually lowered my FPS when i tried it
Charon711
Another BGS game, another placebo performance mod. The world never changes.
Saalle88
Yeah, this mod did nothing.
ShitImBadAtThis
There’s an arms race going on within the modding scene of the remaster right now.
Few different uploaders are trying to be the first one with a release for community patches and performance fixes that have been rushed over from the OG game with minimal testing to try to establish themselves as the “official” unofficial community patch seemingly with the hopes to cement themselves as the go-to with (or without) plans to *actually* fix things later on.

The only thing this mod did for me was reduce DLSS ghosting and that’s a win for me.
Zestyclose-Fee6719
This mod was my biggest disappointment. It had so many endorsements and downloads, and then it didn’t do a damn thing to help.
That_Calligrapher341
They actually updated to the 3.1 version and acutally got rid of my stutters. Df made the video the day before the release.
My lord post the source information (digital foundry) instead of posting a trash article

Pretty sure the same is true for performance issues. Some people legitimately experience issues, discuss those issues, and other people become convinced they’re experiencing issues too — even when they are not.
Nielips
I’d assumed all these uni files wouldn’t do much to address the inherent engine issues…
WafflesAreLove
I didn’t do it for the performance, I did to get rid of the piss filter. Love that digital foundry showed its placebo for people thinking it improves performance.

This is part of the original experience. True to 20 years ago 🙂
Dawhebe
For me it was disabling Rebar/SMA, which made a world of difference with performance.

Title should read “gamers install performance mods but never actually A/B test because ain’t nobody got time for that”

See, I’m confused by this.
I installed this mod. Before I installed it, my framerate outside of Anvil on the Gold Coast was abysmal even on a 13700k/5070ti. After installing, my framerate improved considerably in that area. The results were immediate and fairly dramatic.
Is it possible something else was going on that improved my frame rate? Yes, I suppose so. That said, the improvement occurred right after I installed the mod.
I’m not technical enough to understand what the engine.ini file tweaks are doing, but I did notice a difference.
Dunluce92
I crossed my fingers and toes when I booted the game last night and got an extra 100 FPS.
Nige404
Performance mods never fix shit.
SariusII
I had massive stutter issues, after this mod they are gone. So IT fixed something
SweatTasteGreat
Why do people need these performance mods, all of them have “buttery smooth” performance on their 1660s. /s
nomis_ttam
Well, either this or a different one called oblivion optimizer did something because my frames or stutters improved immensely. With hardware rt. Changing any other settings did minimal change.
ImRonniemundt
I dont understand why it’s the mod community’s responsibility to fix their game to make it playable for vast amounts of people.
Killbot6
All I know is, that Fuzz UI, horse speed, Trophy enabler & Internal Map switcher mod is the shit.
