My pc could run GTA at about 160FPS fine but all of the sudden -as you can see in the video- the FPS dropped, it started buffering at a semi-consistent rate, and the audio turns 8-bit-ish.

Possible causes: I just updated the GPU driver (clean install) and BIOS. Also I think the CPU fan and thermal paste were a bit wonky and the CPU was over-heating before this but i don't know if that's what caused the problem or if that even could cause this.

PC specs (just in case):

RTX 4060

i5 12600KF

16gb ram

650w

Nvidias new driver is crap and could really be the reason for this.

  2. lukasBus07

Also forgot to mention that it’s the exact same in any game. Even Doom 64.

gpu usage, cpu usage, their temps, (v)ram filling and usage… anything can be checked via msi afterburner. if you want see it real-time, you can turn on rivatuner inside of msi afterburner

Nah, my laptop runs things far better than this.

Are you sure you didn’t accidentally boot up your PS3?

  6. AptoticFox

My laptop from 2013 runs GTA5 much smoother than that.

this is why i dont do graphic card updates right when they come out

  8. macgirthy

I honestly never did the driver update as often as I should, the mantra if it aint broke dont fix it really applies here.

Didnt have issues before, why look for issues now?

Curious to know on what version of Nvidia driver you are on!

Does anyone know why they changed desktop design on reddit? I can’t find the button to sort comments for the life of me.

Everyone says drivers but I bet it’s temps

  14. For the record there is zero evidence that the latest nvidia driver can do this. I had an issues a while back after installing a 5080 and my CPU performance dropped by 60%. No idea why but hundreds of redditors said it was 100% because my Intel CPU was dying, absolutely confirmed and tested as all Intel CPUs just die quickly. Turns out that it was a strange motherboard issue, a factory reset of the bois solved it.

Your issue is clearly something else. You need to post cpu/gpu/ram/ssd activity and temps.

My PC has been acting up lately and my CPU temps were increasing. I replaced the thermal paste and all good now!

  16. Long-Patient604

Nah, Pavilion 15 can do better.

Do you have your video cable plugged into your gpu or your mobo?

  19. redzero25

Bet it’s a thermal paste and ram issue

my laptop, 12 year old pc and steamdeck run it better, probably due to drivers or such

    > and the CPU was over-heating before this

    Wait, what?

Need more info. GTA is notoriously CPU heavy, especially with mods, and will often 100% CPUs.

So, what you mean your “CPU was overheating before this”?

The first question is usually “what changed just before X happened”, and it looks like you would say “GPU driver install”.

So you can DDU the drivers and install the version just prior to test.

Some people get 60ish fps on ytube without any graphics card at all with just a 12600K, although settings aren’t always shown.. if 1080p, then 1440p might be closer to 30-40 fps or what is above.

Make sure the game isn’t running entirely off the cpu (perhaps this can be changed through nvidia control panel 3d settings)

If it just dropped then you’ll probably just need to reinstall drivers or (most likely) wait for an update in drivers.

Is the above what you get with the game on the lowest settings

My laptop has a 4080 in it runs wayyyy better lol

This isn’t fucking funny dude. My dog identifies as a cat.

  27. WeirdCosmologist

my laptop with a RTX 2050 pushes around 120 FPS in GTA V High Graphics.

  28. AzureMabinogi

Bro GTA 5 is so shittily optimized it still runs like ass even on 4090 and 5090.

  29. fieryfox654

The laptop I bought 10 years ago would run GTA V on 1080p high 60fps lol

  30. Euphoric-Mistake-875

I rarely read change logs. Except for GPUs. If it doesn’t have something I really want or need I don’t mess with it. Even then I wait for it to be out at least a month before I install it.

  31. Sure-Airline-9253

CPU had this problem. I redid the thermal paste and everything went way better.

  32. Hrmerder

Bro my 750ti ran it better than this..

  33. trieticus

Revert to PCIe 3.0? BIOS update might have reset the PCIe version to 4.0, which is kinda unstable
