I've never been a fan of Bethesda 3rd person because of how janky it feels – and Remastered still does to an extent – but it's no worse than Starfield (imo).

I gotta hand it to Virtuos for making me want to use 3rd person in an Elder Scrolls game. Something I've never really done before.

Doesn't hurt that the character creator looks so good I actually want to see my avatar.

How does melee combat feel? Similar to Skyrim in that it feels like you are slicing through enemies rather than hits having an actual impact? Maybe magic feels better?

For me, first person is always the best way to play Elder Scrolls. The third person mode in Bethesda games always feels janky, and it still does in the Oblivion Remaster. The sprint animation in third person is also pretty terrible.

  3. EvilWiffles

I always used both. 3rd person for traveling, first person for combat or exploring dungeons.

There is a slight problem I ran into using third person.

The boots on the Glass armor set are bugged, and your feet clip through the bottom of them when you’re sprinting. So, when I’m in third person, I can see the bottom of my character’s feet clipping through my boots.

  5. outside 3rd person, dungeons 1st.
but yeah, third person is way more usable than ever before

I would use it, but the running animations are so hilariously immersion breaking bad that I just can’t, so I play FPV. Which nerd asked for that?

  7. DependentRow8281

Yeah. I travel with my helmet off to see my curly locks

  8. OsirisAvoidTheLight

I play all the Bethesda games in third person. In the Original and Skyrim you got a lot more execution kills that way

  9. KuweDraven

That looks like you got a beeeefy PC, looks goooood

Running animation breaks my immersion. Plus the way the armors are just a mesh on your body looks really weird once you notice it. Steel plates bend and morph to your body as it moves

    Right??

Usually Bethesda’s 3rd person are ass, but this one really took the cake. Feels seamless to transition from one to the other.

  12. Automatic_Mine7731

I really dislike the running animation

  13. Lihkhan

I use it because the light spell is bugged, and doesn’t show in 1st person lol

  14. Tumblrrito

I use it for big main story battles because it feels more cinematic

I tend to use 3rd person in this particular game way more than the previous games. Idk why, but it feels slightly less claustrophobic to me. I still shift to first person for dungeons and combat, along with precision archery.

They fixed the 3rd person camera to be more over the shoulder I was so hyped when I saw that

In og oblivion and Skyrim I always had to get some mod to change the camera to use it comfortably

  17. STA_Alexfree

Outside running around and checking stuff out = 3rd person. Inside or fighting = 1st person

  18. QWEDSA159753

I played Skyrim in 3rd a lot but Oblivion in 1st pretty much exclusively.

  19. I__Am__Baked

I’ve always played in 3rd person, on Fallout and Elder Scrolls. Usually 1st person for bow kills tho

  20. AfroSamuraii_

Are there spiders in this game? That was one of the main reasons I played Skyrim in third person.

  21. mighty_mag

I much, much prefer games in third person, specially RPGs. Even Skyrim and OG Oblivion I would play in third person, despite it being less than optimal. (OG Oblivion required third person aim mod)

I’m glad they improved the camera for the remaster. It’s still far from perfect, but it’s quite playable out of the box now.

I just love all the weapons and armor in oblivion. A lot of equipment in skyrim felt and looked primitive to me

  23. the_real_junkrat

If only the kvatch armor you get at the beginning kept its cloth physics in performance mode.

  24. Ancient_Expl0rer

Just another proof that 3rd person action rpg is the way.

  25. Big_Smoke_0G

Tbh with the new combat and having dodging back I play almost exclusively 3P POV but enemies have a habit of conveniently attacking around my shield if I’m in 3P so lately I’ve been using first a bit more

  26. 3rd person is WAY better in this game. I generally fight in 3rd person and the collect loot in first persob

  27. Is there a button to quickly switch back and forth like in skyrim?

  28. ChewiesLipstickWilly

Only games like CoD etc. should be FP. Sword and Sorcery being FP is beyond stupid

  29. Really? To me the movement animations are really weird in Remaster.

  30. katastrophyx

I did until I put chameleon gear… then it’s kinda pointless

  31. VerifiedActualHuman

I don’t often use 3rd person because I use invisibility a lot and it always glitches out half invisible when it wears out, and its really distracting.
