using liquid metal on the cpu. in my experience the tape ended up being more useful when cleaning the stuff again, it jumps around like crazy. i'm not too worried about it leaking onto the cpu/socket, but better sae than sorry.
tldr: is this amount of tape enough to protect the socket, or should I add more?

You should really only use LM on direct die applications.
Liquid metal on IHS makes zero sense
I mean LM on the IHS may give you some temp savings, but nothing compared to direct die and LM.
Remove tape it is Uselss… think about it… Liquid Metal can slim out flat to a micron label to fill in smallest inconsistencies between die and cooling solution! You really believe it would sip under poorly applied tape?
Also before it gets that far it will get into socket pins and on cpu components that you can see around
I see people commenting about “LM on IHS” is not a good idea.
Well, I used LM over my Zen2, Zen3 IHSs and it makes a big difference on the max temps. 10c or more temp reduction.
Whatever you do, do not use a copper coldplate.
Lm has no use for ihs. Only use it for direct die
Have you covered the SMDs on the CPU PCB itself? Otherwise those would be the first victim of any liquid metal spillover.
Don’t use LM if you intend to keep your CPU and can’t afford to replace the mobo + CPU easily you really need to direct die it if you intend to do LM. Complete waste of time and will require way more faff in replacing it which you will need to do long term.
If you are about bragging rights for something exotic get a phase change pad instead.
