Basically don’t get rich and go back to your hood type of thing.like yea he didn’t make it to see riches obviously (rip) but the message is clear.

I always read it as a eulogy. They’re sad because he’s dead, and mad at him for getting himself killed by biting off more than he can chew.

And a cautionary warning, for that matter. The problem with burning bright is that you burn.

I think it is, more than anything, about V.

He ran with the wrong people after leaving the nest, and that got him killed. It could be about T-bug and Dex, it could be about Merc culture as a whole, but… Jackie had one person he was ride-or-die with. He rode with them, and then he died, and V is still standing.

That may not be the whole intent, but my V at least took it very personally.

As a Spanish speaker, the text does appear as Jackie was well liked and recognized.

    It’s like saying

“poor Jackie , he messed with the wrong gang”

Street kind-of-eulogy. ‘fucking Jackie Welles, got involved with the wrong people’

Everyone’s interpreting it wrong. **It’s talking about Arasaka.** It’s saying that even Jackie Welles, one of the most respected and feared Valentinos, couldn’t even go toe to toe with Arasaka.

It’s not really an insult to V, if anything it’s a shot at Dex.

You can interpret it in several ways in Spanish, but the one that makes the most sense to me is

“Damned Jackie Welles, he messed with the wrong people”

They’re coming to his Ofrienda. So yeah, they liked and probably respected him, even though he left the Gang to become a Merc.

“Se lió con la plebe equivocada” can be translated in three ways. Plebe can go by singular and plural, and means person/people.
    1. Jackie got involved with the wrong people. Referring to all the people on the heist.
    2. Jackie got involved with V. If we consider female V canon maybe it refers to her, “la plebe” point that they mean a female.
    3. Jackie got involved/hang out/meet the death. This one is, in my opinion, the real answer because people call her La Santa Muerte, and La Santa Muerte is considered like a female entity in that religion which if maybe wasn’t Jackie’s religion is a known cult among Valentinos.
Besides considering the mission of Jackie’s funeral I don’t really think that Valentinos hold resentment with V and yes, they still liked Jackie.
Just a way to pay respects for Jackie Welles from the Valentinos.

(As a Mexican I really love the effort CDPR put on these little details, definitely something I could see en el barrio)

It is not uncommon in Hispanic cultures to mourn loved dead ones with comments along the line of “should’ve known better than to mess with {insertguy}”. This *is* people making a memorial for him as a warning to other loved ones, like “you know what happened to our bro, be more clever than him”.
