‘Be more like Larian, less like Activision’: Ex-Call of Duty producer takes his old employer to task for prioritizing FOMO over quality

  1. Activision is going to look at the revenue COD generated and then laugh at this statement. Surely this guy understands that they only give a fuck about making money. So I’m not sure what he’s even trying to appeal to here. As if Activision/Microsoft are just going to be like “oh yeah he’s right, we should make less money by being more consumer-friendly” and change a business model that rakes in obscene amounts of money for them. Such a pointless statement.

I hate Activision as much as the next guy, but telling a business to focus on “Make good quality product over profit” is just dumb, especially when CoD prints money.

Don’t know why people think Activision are the target of his comments. They ain’t reading this. They’re just the example used to make his point.

It’s good advice for all these no-name games companies making FOMO games that die off very quickly. Recent releases have proven that quality brings you fans and money. If you’ve not got brand recognition, your FOMO game is DOA. Even for big developers making original IPs.

MBAs across the board will never understand that quality equals FOMO.

They’ll just look at the money call of duty is printing for them the last few years and the years to come then they will laugh and move on and won’t give a shit what some ex employee thinks

They make billions in microtransactions even though it’s made the game look like a deformed hybrid of overwatch and fornite whilst keeping a realistic artstyle for everything else
