We call it Kalaha where I’m from, but usually the stones are smaller and there’s a lot more of them

In elementary school, my parents put my siblings and I in after school daycare. We’d sit in the cafeteria, do some homework, and mess around. The mancala scene was insane. Literally EVERYONE, overseers included, would play.

u/Environmental-Fly929 played this game in Ghana.
u/dhruva108 played it in the Phillipines.
u/Angin_Merana knows it from Southeast Asia under another name.
u/OGMinorian saw it in Denmark.
And they all post here. Guys, Reddit is such a beautiful and not-so-dystopian place sometimes.

It’s pretty cool to read about the different names and variations of this game. I’m guessing it was introduced by traveling merchants to different parts of the world.

I think that’s Mancala (pls correct me if I’m wrong)
I think it’s a cool little detail to see a millennia old game being played in the closing years of the 21st century.

Mancala? I wish we could play it, these were in almost every elementary school in the US, they even had them on computers, cool they worked in a psychical board. Basically it’s you both take turns moving the stones from pool to pool until you get all of them in one of the trays on the end, and if you have more your tray than whoever your playing with after the board is cleared, you win

Mandala I ain’t got half a clue how to play it

Where did you find this? I’m enjoying some old-fashioned conspiracy theories about games inside the game, and I’d like to go check it out in person.

Mancala of some sorts
Mancala, on of the oldest games in the world. Bedouin nomads would play it using stones and little indentations they’d make in the sand.
Some version of mancala.
God knows
Looks just like a game we play in Ghana called Oware
