I think they referred to it as “remastered” (not remaster 🤣 as many joke) because while there are plenty of tweaks (UI, combat etc) the core game is unchanged.
Unlike something like RE4 (org RE2 as well) that has more substantial and structural changes to the game both in level design and gameplay.

It’s running on UE5, but the actual, original game is running under that. It’s new skins on the old game.

It’s the same as the Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core remaster from a few years ago. While it did get a complete graphical overhaul, you could tell that it was still the old PSP game running underneath it all.

It’s just a graphic overhaul built on top of the old engine. This is likw the recent Tomb Raider remasters. You can literally switch in real time to the old graphics to the new ones but nothing else was changed.

It’s like they stripped the body of an old Toyota and then put the body of a 2025 Camry on top with some adjustments so that all the features of the Camry works with the old insides.

As someone else mentioned, Oblivion cannot be remade because its engine bugs were the reason why it’s remembered. If you remake it, you will ruin it. It’s definitely one of the best remasters of all time
