It’s a gigabyte 4080 card, it might as well be a bomb.

Free xray to see if the core is still in place 😂

With the connectors on these newer flagship cards that thing is basically a fire hazard

2 months from now, filing a warranty claim with gigabyte.
-Card has been x-rayed and we found a hair from a TSA agent on it, claim denied. – gigabyte (probably)

You’re lucky they didn’t dismantle it haphazardly

To be fair he isnt a gamer or an engineer. Not surprised he was confused. Lucky he didn’t see the thermal putty and call for bomb removal.

Surprised they didn’t scream and smash it to pieces with a rock. TSA has zero respect for expensive/fragile equipment. I get it isn’t a fun job but don’t take it out on us normal folk.

My son went from Canada to England with an Xbox series x in his carry-on and the Canadian airport were all over it like this (I was crying watching them undo all my hard work packaging it up) , Paris (lay over) didn’t give a crap and neither did England.

When visiting friends and family I really wanted to bring my mini pc it’s tiny but has gtx 1660 super. I feared it not going well with TSA so I didn’t bother.

Tbh if I was a TSA agent looking for explosive devices, I would probably think that that thing is a bit suspicious
The-Great-T
I had to go through with two motherboards last time I flew and they had to pull them aside. Fortunately, they didn’t seem to dumb, looked at them, asked me if I thought Gigabyte was a good brand (not really), and sent me on my way.
It’s what you have to deal with when you happen to travel somewhere with a MicroCenter.

If it was an POSSIBLE explosive device…it’s weird that they would examine with it like this.

hmm new side hustle, sir im gonna have to confiscate this 4090/5090/4080/5080, its a fire hazard =P

When I had to transport my PC from England to Ireland I had a similar situation when security at Manchester airport encountered the 780 in my carry on luggage. The first guy called his supervisor, she called someone higher up, they huddled together for a while around the card before settling on bringing out a little feather duster looking thing to tickle every square millimetre of it.
Meanwhile I’m trying to suppress a conniption as I witness the most expensive thing my broke student self owned being exposed to what I was certain would be a lethal dose of static electricity (it was fine). Good times.

Did the TSA Agent return it to Best Buy before you got a chance to pick it up after security?

Any bomb would look like a borito wrapped in tin foil with a watch attached to it
A graphics card must look like alien tech to them, so they are unsure is this an advanced pocket Nuclear Bomb or actual alien hardware that needs to be reported to the FBI
I mean look at him, he holds it like a monkey that discovered an Ipad

The TSA’s image of you in their minds as they analyze the card.

Alot of people don’t honestly, not everyone into tech stuff. Techie is a small part of the community/career field. It’s just like a geologist show you some rare rocks you are most likely no idea what they are nor what to do with them, even some rocks are radioactive.

Haha I know this feeling. I’m a pilot, I buy stuff on the road all the time to save on taxes, Ontario charges 13% sales tax and Alberta only charges 5% so if I’m gonna go blow a few thousand bucks on a build, or new phone/laptop, I just bid an Edmonton layover (nobody else wants them anyways) and save hundreds. Surprisingly I haven’t ever been given a real hard time at security even when going through with essentially an entire PC minus the case. It does help that I’m crew though I guess. Last time I saved almost 500 bucks in tax.

It’s gigabyte what do you expect?

I’m honestly impressed. TSA futzing with technology seems to vary so much. I do amateur radio as a hobby and back in October of 2021 I flew from TN to CA with an entire duffel bag full of radios, batteries, various power cables as well as coaxial cables, and a handheld antenna. Went through the xray perfectly fine even though I can only assume it would have looked like a fucking nuke.

Lol sir our machine has indicated you are trying to smuggle a 4060 as 4080. Come with us please.

I’ve gone through with a gpu. They open the box, check it and put it back.
