Only one reason I will never buy an ubisoft product again

If a game requires internet access they are tracking you.

  3. I mean, I don’t understand some parts of the complaint.

First you should already be able to play most ubisoft games offline but you need to manually set the launcher to offline mode (when it works)

If the data was personnal or partially personnal I could understand the basis of the complaints but appart from that it doesn’t really hold up. How much time you took to complete a specific quest or on which boss you had a lot of death hardly quelify as “personnal data”.

Under GDPR which the article loves to mention one quick check and here it is :

Processing shall be lawful only if and to the extent that at least one of the following applies:

    (a) the data subject has given consent to the processing of his or her personal data for one or more specific purposes;

    […]
    (f) processing is necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by the controller or by a third party, except where such interests are overridden by the interests or fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject which require protection of personal data, in particular where the data subject is a child.

It may be considered “hidden” or not but it’s probably just in the EULA

    OR

There is a legitimate interest to Ubisoft to get such data from players as it helps balancing their game, finding key issues in design ….

    OR

Data is like this is questionnably “personnal” and doesn’t fall into these

I hate Ubisoft Connect but to me this isn’t going anywhere

This sounds like the most tedious job ever.

Ubisoft Employee: is this guy seriously going to ride his horse across the entire map? Duuuuude, come on! Just fast travel! Oh, wait he’s going to do a side quest. What are you doing?! The door is right there! Stop! Get off the roof there is no entry there! Wait no! Not like that! Did you seriously expect to live from that dive?!

I have yet to understand why I should care

My FBI agent and Ubisoft intern are constantly messaging each other every time I stop playing assassin’s creed after five minutes just so I can go doomscroll for 20 minutes before remembering I was playing a game and going back to AC for five more minutes.

Wonder how the Ubishills will try to spin this one.

  8. I really don’t understand the Logistics of this. What prevents Ubisoft to just gather the Data offline on your device and then send them over once you have a connection just like Steam, Prime Video or any other online service does once you go offline. It feels like they are begging for people to complain about their practices whens it would be really easy to partially conceal them.

We need a few modder to do a “man in the middle” exploit…

If they want data… give them so much data that non of it makes any sense and has zero use to them
send them 40 million instances of “players” opening the shop, clicking the biggest package, then backing out at the last step just to mess with them.
