idk how poor you must be, cause SSDs like the Kingston NV3 are extremely cheap, cheaper than many HDDs out there.

SSDs are not that expensive anymore
Who uses HDDs in the big 25 anymore, imagine /s

I have both. I feel fine.

SSDs (besides the top of the line brand new ones) are just as cheap if not cheaper than some HDDs. People aren’t looking at you like that bc you’re poor. They’re looking at you like that bc you’re being dumb.
Gailim
you have been able to buy ~$50 1TB SSDs for years now

It’s ok, I have an HDD in my build… I mean, it’s not hook up to anything, I was just too lazy to remove it when I installed my m.2 drive; but still…

It’s 2025. There are zero excuses to be had for using a hard disc drive to boot.

SSDs big enough to boot from are literally 10 bucks

Buy an ssd even 125 gb, install your OS there and use hdd for rest of the storage, you will feel the speed up in day to day activities.

If you are only running a HDD in the year of our lord 2025 then I highly suggest that you do anything to at least upgrade to a 128GB SSD to run your OS on (or bigger to install the game of the day on as well). It will be a life changing event for you as your boot times drop to sub-30s and your OS starts to do things almost instantly instead of your computer taking it’s time to consider things before doing them…

This meme is outdated for like 10 years. In my country you can buy 1TB SSD in same price as 1TB HDD.
If you need a higher capacity SSD, it’s probably for working purposes or at least learning and that’s worth investing in.
Except few series HDDs larger than 1TB are pretty specialized anyway.
Been redownloading all my games to my secondary SSD off my HDD, it’s easy on steam but with epic games you have to completely uninstall it and wait hours for it to download. Unlike steam where you can just go in settings, click on the game, tell it what drive to move to, and it moves over instantly.

prob with HDDs is how windows manage them, they almost run constantly when they should not, I had a 2TB back in the day I was a kid (15years ago or smth) and its only purpose was the storage of movies and music, I would use it like 5 times a week but when it started dying, I would check its health and it had like 100 000 hours of usage. I remember something like 10 years of usage that should simply not have been the case for something I used so few times.
Nowadays when I go to bed in the dead silence at 2am I often hear my SO’s HDD wake up for no reason when late gaming. Same thing it’s just storage, All games and systems are on SSDs, we’re slowly replacing every HDDs. the better solution would be to have an easy way to turn it off when not needed, it would be less bothersome than having them in a NAS meaning not having HDDs on your main PC

Think its just a matter of people just using their HDDs to get more time out of them vs buying brand new HDDs as upgrades.

Sata ssd is so cheap now and ten times faster than the fastest hdd

SDD’s aren’t significantly more expensive than HDD’s anymore so there’s really no good reason to not to have one.
