What do you expect?? The game is a Frankenstein contraption of two game engines running in parallel with one another, and UE5 has a horrible reputation for being a stuttering mess on top of that.
Edit: are there any other games that run on two different engines like this?
Careful-Remote-7024
Oof, how reddit will react to this hype-breaking statement
MJR_Poltergeist
I really don’t know what you expect running games at 4k. That really shouldn’t be the testing metric for games. Every time I see somebody talking about a game running like shit then they mention they ran it in 4k I just roll my eyes
slurredcowboy
It honestly holds up better than most other UE5 games, which isn’t saying much, but I don’t get how its the worst.
That said UE5 is just shit and all the games look the same too. I’m truly appalled why developers keep using this garbage engine. I do not care how pretty a game looks if I can’t even hold 60fps. Not to mention every game that comes out of it looks like it was made by Ubisoft and has placeholder character animations.
Hope to god Bethesda doesn’t use it for a new game. It only slightly works because it still has some charm from the OG engine.
balilo79
100% agree, still a fun nostalgia trip.
At this point I just blame UE5.
The only game in that engine that has run well for me onna 3070 is Fortnite and even though every few months I have to reinstall it because the performance will randomly go to shit after a match with no settings changes and never improve until reinstalled.
chobobot
I’m getting 55-60 fps indoors and outdoors at 1440p on a 3080ti, which is fine for me.
Radsby007
It does have performance issues but about 4 hours in and I’m having a blast replaying after many years with my Breton Battle Mage.
Fun-Bag7627
Really? I played on my Ally last night. Played pretty well.
kotsuyen
Perfect or not, it runs a hell of a lot better than the original does on consoles and is the most accessible and available Oblivion has been for non PC players since it launched. If it was a perfect remake with no bugs and AAA budgeting, they’d have tried charging full price or more. As it stands, it is a perfectly serviceable remaster that lets fans, both old and new, enjoy what was arguably one of Bethesda’s best games ever.
jdylanstewart
Runs great on my steam deck
ArgonTheEvil
Still runs better than Ark Survival, I’m sure.
Coolpantsbro
I guess he didn’t test Wilds
SH4DY_XVII
And their parting gift was to disable DLSS on a friday. MODERN GAMIING YA’LL.
ClammyClamerson
Yeah it’s not great. It’s playable though assuming you have a decently powerful PC. Mine is nothing crazy and I stay above 60 FPS with some upscaling. In my experience it’s better than the lows that you’ll find in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
XennaNa
I’m starting to question what kinda Frankenstein contraption they are running games on cause the digital foundry guys are starting to seem delusional to me
euMonke
90 Meta score and “very positive” on steam speaks for itself.
(PS5) I’m having fun but I get absolutely horrid ghosting when I swap weapons from holding a torch or in front of a light source. Most other times I don’t notice any ghosting
MarczXD320
Series S version of this game is running on resolution all the way down to 360p depending on how it scale. I think the developers need to remove those forced ray tracing features like Lumen.
Kingofdarkness35
Turning down shadows from ultra to high gives a nice boost in FPS. Went from 50-55 to 65-70 just from that alone.
WikipediaThat
Love them, but Oblivion, Fallout 3, and New Vegas all feel like they’re built with scotch tape and prayers to a dark god.
edcline
Worst running games seems like a real stretch, one based slowly to get engagement around a hyped game. Disappointed in DF for this.
Danominator
Yeah it doesn’t run great. I’m getting by ok. But I’m not obsessive over the frame rate like some
eldon3213
Game runs fine for me
Darkone539
Pc gaming is going this way again. It’s so bad we can’t even brute force it anymore.
Infinitehope42
I got it for free on game pass and it hasn’t crashed once after a day of gameplay. I call that a major improvement over some of my previous elder scrolls experiences.
I imagine it would be frustrating trying to run a game at perfect specs on a high end rig and not have it work out but I’m not going to run into an old friend who got a makeover and tell them they could stand to loose ten more pounds. 🤷🏻♂️
CornyMedic
And it’s super fun
LeRoyRouge
It runs better on my PS5 performance mode than it did on my PS3.
UglyInThMorning
It’s kind of interesting to look at how the original performed on contemporary hardware:
If you saw numbers like this now on common resolutions a lot of people would absolutely lose their minds.
Also it’s fun because it shows how bad SLI was if the game wasn’t built for it, there’s cases where SLI does worse than just a solo version of the same card (which is why I went from 2x 7800GTXes to 1 8800GTX back in the day)
E: also the 6800 that’s noted as being a high end card that struggled with it came out in April 04, about 2 years before Oblivion did.
Loreinier
Currently playing on a 1080ti hitting around 60-90 fps with little to no glitches, stuttering or issues.
DeltaAdvisor01425
Yall proving you didn’t watch the video. He’s talking about the hitching/stutters that constantly happen. And he mentions that yes that’s present in other UE5 games but that it’s even worse here, comparing it to Jedi Survivor. I love the game and it’s running fine on my Ally X, but the dev should definitely continue to work on optimizations
M4rl0w
Mine actually runs great and funnily my computer is having issues lately crashing with other games suddenly
perrosandmetal78
Bethesda game may need patch. Shocked! I’m shocked I say!
freshairequalsducks
We are so back!!
Zedlol18
I have a 4080 and a ryzen 9. I could run it on ultra at 70fps or i could turn it down to high not seeing a difference and it jumps up to 170-200.
lefty1117
For me its the random crashing. Very frustrating
Godz_Lavo
Game runs horribly. On Xbox I barely can turn the camera without dropping to 10-20 fps. My pc can run it, but outside I can drop to 40 fps. Which doesn’t make sense because it can run almost any game on ultra perfectly fine at 120 fps.
The remaster needs a massive optimization update. It’s awful to run.
DrVagax
For a change, I got 30 hours in it and I barely notice issues on high
unseeker
Digital foundry used to be good, now they are just cosplaying that hairy dude from gamer nexus that think he knows better than any GPU maker but is just an youtuber dude.
mileyboo69
For everyone commenting “it runs great on my _______”
If it’s a card released within the past couple years, that’s not a surprise.
If it’s under 60 fps on low settings, that’s not great.
The game should be able to run, at minimum, 60 fps on on medium/low, on most mid tier gpu’s and even some “lower” if I’m being honest.
Games great, and I’m having a blast on my 40 FPS run through; it just sucks knowing in the back of my head, my experience will be 10x better in a few months when community modders optimize the game for Bethesda…again.
DriftMantis
I think the performance is disappointing, especially because I think this game honestly looks pretty average graphically for a game coming out in 2025.
Like it looks fine, but I feel like a top of the line cpu should run this game more than 80fps with massive stutters all the time. That’s ridiculous.
SingularityScalpel
60fps on medium with a 2070 non super. No frame gen. Idk what’s so bad about it?
Kimmalah
I have definitely had a lot of frame rate issues, weird lighting bugs, several crashes and the usual Unreal Engine slow loading textures. I just make sure to save a lot, just like old Oblivion.
Accomplished_Ebb1493
So is it just being accepted that it runs poorly? I feel the shadowdrop and overall hype is masking the problems a remaster shouldn’t have.
GalacticDogger
Yep performance sucks a lot but goddamn the game is so fun. I usually dislike games when the performance is bad but I just can’t get myself to dislike Oblivion.
whatyouwere
I’m playing it on XSX (performance mode) and it runs just fine. I’m even streaming it to my Steam Deck at 60fps with no issues
Any_Association4863
If it didn’t have issues I wouldn’t play it
You don’t go to a Tarantino movie for anything other than a Tarantino movie, and you didn’t play a Bethesda game for anything other than a fucking Bethesda game
