It’s hard to believe that Bioware was making games like these consistently at one point 2007-2010

The same could be said for many developers

Some of my all time favorites, I need to replay them all again soon. It’s been too long.

I’ve never played any Dragon Age. Bought Inquisition for like $4 and never touched it yet. Because of what everyone always says, I would be all over a Legendary edition-style remake of Origins on day one. Or I guess I could just get it on Steam or something lol

Baldur’s Gate 1, 2, Icewind Dale and Planescape Torment laugh at these while taking pain meds for their back pain..

For me; it started with Neverwinter Nights (2002), then Knights of the Old Republic, then Jade Empire.

By that point, when Mass Effect dropped I had no clue what it was about. I just trusted that it would be an awesome game, and it was.

Cut to now, I think a lot of us feel the same that we can’t trust developers to crank out hit game one after the other like they used to.

Not to me, I was there when that golden age began and ended. It’s hard to believe the pale shade they are today.

    Still pulling for them though.

You STARTED at Mass Effect? Bro, they did the original Baldurs Gate games in the 90s. Do you like Star Wars? KOTOR is some of the best Star Wars media full stop. They have fallen FAR. We’ve lost more from Bioware than most Devs could ever hope to have.

It didn’t start with Mass Effect though; Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was a roaring success, critically acclaimed and generally considered by many at the time to be the best Star Wars game ever made. They followed that up with Jade E.pire which, while a lot less memorable, was still a solid rpg

So yeah, Mass Effect wasn’t even the start of their consistent run of quality imo.

to be fair these had the same jank their games have today. If these were developed today, people would find things to hate about them. They were far from perfect games, they were amazing though. The feels i had playing mass effect for the first time are unmatched.

dragon age origins would be the one remake i would love.

Dragon age veilguard’s issue really is putting the cart before the horse

They focused way too much on the gender politics and none on the gameplay or the storyline

OG BioWares strength was their strong story and good gameplay.

Yeah sadly they’re not the company they were anymore.

I just recently finished the trilogy legendary edition, safe to say it’s still the best sci-fi rpg to me after all these years

Feel like you could extend this run from 2003 until 2013. In those 10 years they made KOTOR and The Old Republic, Jade Empire, Mass Effect trilogy, Dragon Origins and II etc

They had some meh games in that period as well but averaging an incredible game every year and a half is an insane decade of development.

The problem is that the talent moves on to other companies or retires. The companies share the same name decades later but not the same team – the IP suffers. Studios should pay their employees better or not lay them off when games are shipped

Bioware was still on their high from making games like Neverwinter, but then the entire culture changed as non gamers started entering the market

The original Baldur’s Gate, and especially Baldur’s Gate 2, are still two of my favorite ~~CRPGs~~ *games* of all time! And I played them to completion for the first time only two years ago! They still hold pretty well IMHO.

It’s not like technology is standing in the way. It’s all management. It’s all rich fucks who think they know what’s best for the rest of us.

During Mass Effect 2 Development the 2 Founders left and that was the end for Bioware.

I find it very funny mass effect 2 is in this post, as it was attacked massively on release by fans for being dumbed down and worse than mass effect 1 lol

Lots of people saw ME2’s smaller worlds, simpler dialogue, “gears of war ripoff” cover based shooting, introduction of ammo as EA’s influence to dumb down and mainstream the series from ME1.

I remember a lot of people from back in the day saying ME2 was the first sign of EA influence dumbing down Bioware

Dude that was the tail end of their golden years lol
