They really should have spent more time writing for River. As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse he’s super endearing in his pursuit of saving his nephew. If only he weren’t so friggen awkward…

Buddy about as interesting as an abacus.

He is awkward in a cute way 😉 they should also add more quest that is related to his pi career after his main quest

Yeah, he was *brutalized* by some of the cuts they made to keep things on schedule.

I have a lot of sympathy for his awkwardness because he simply cannot make more of a fool of himself than my V did trying to hit on Panam. World’s most lethal dork beats endearingly overearnest on the Oof Scale, every time.

I just finished his quest “the hunt”. All I can say is damn, wish we had more river stuff — so powerful and dark

survivor of childhood sexual abuse……You mean his neaphew right? Because River as a kid watched his parents both gunned down, which is equally tragic but he doesn’t seem to reveal that he had been molested before.

Edit: My bad for being stupid and not seeing things correctly

He’s the only somewhat normal person in the entire city. He and Misty might have been good friends actually.

He needed two or three more missions, like with Judy. Would have made his romance feel less like it came out of nowhere.

  8. If you ask me River’s quest line is the most off the wall and crazy shit in the game, it’s the one quest line I did once and will never do again on any second or third playthroughs.

River may not be written well but if you don’t find his quest line interesting I’m not sure what to say.

As much as I wanted to make my V date him, I just find him boring. That sort of brooding straight edge is just not the right tone for Night City.

Plus he’s the only romanceable love interest who you can not encounter at all. If you stick to the main quest and don’t go see the Peralezes, you don’t ever meet him.

I think part of my issue with River is he feels a lot like an afterthought. Every other potential partner is part of the main story, but River is entirely sidequest material, and he definitely feels written that way too

His grounded, down-to-earth romance was a refreshing contrast to the game’s high-octane chaos, but it felt underdeveloped. That awkwardness could’ve been endearing with more polish instead of just ‘cringe,’ it could’ve shown his humanity in a world that grinds it down.

The bigger missed opportunity? His arc hinting at becoming a PI or an fixer as hinted from the credits. That’s a perfect fit for Night City’s tone, and it could’ve tied into the main story imagine him helping V investigate the Relic or digging up corpo secrets. Even a side gig where you partner up on cases would’ve added depth.

the quest where he save his nephew was really good, but im genuinely surprised at the fact that we never got to do more detective work with him. i was expecting there to be a continuation to that cliffhanger with his partner Harold Han, only for it to be left alone 🙁

Apparently a bunch of his missions were given to Takemura.

  14. It seems, I’m the only one who doesn’t find him awkward
