Intel being Intel…

at least the 2 people who bought a pc with socket 1851 can make good money from it in like 20 years

  2. Bydlak_Bootsy

But 1851 will also support Panther Lake, which will come in 2026? Same as it has been for years with them, one socket for 2 gens.

  3. WaggishSaucer62

Wait are intel dropping the socket next gen? I cant see anything about that online?

  4. JamesMCC17

Buy our new CPU! (AND MOTHERBOARD)

    – Intel every gen

  5. Aspi_ar

I forgot about Intel since they released this whole “Ultra” thing. They will never go back to what they used to be, nothing will be the same.

  6. Consistent_Cat3451

Meanwhile AM4 and AM5 surviving the test of time.

  7. I could understand them doing this when they had a monopoly on CPUs, but now that they’re not even the first choice for one it’s so stupid

  8. Common_Dot526

this is the reason AMD is the go to for upgradability

Ditching LGA 1851 so fast? I mean what is the problem with it?

  9. Adept_Temporary8262

Wait what’s happening? I’m still on LGA 1400

  10. Gilah_EnE

Remember there were times when one generation had two incompatible sockets for regular processors and HEDT-class ones? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

  11. Skastrik

It’s funny to see them keep doing this after they experienced and witnessed how AM4 just devastated their own business model. And knowing that AM5 will keep doing it.

  12. OneNavan

At this point I’m not blaming Intel but the people who buy from them

If there is a better option like Ryzen why stick with a company that will drop you in 1 gen and half

  13. Termiborg

Can someone give me a simple explanation to AMD’s terminology in understanding which CPU is which in performance (compare it with i3-5-7-9) and I will start shifting a global company’s local subsidiary towards AMD almoat immediately.

  14. tekrangerk

Just another reason Intel hasn’t been in the heart of any of my rigs in years.

Then you have AMD who kicks out a final X3D CPU for AM4 to give them more life yet after nearly a decade, while AM5 rolls out next to it.

  15. Mineplayerminer

What are they trying to achieve with changing the sockets almost every year, other than people dumping their motherboards because they have an old socket?

  16. gurugabrielpradipaka

My hunch is that AMD buried Intel very deep already, and no chance of resurrection. Hopefully I’m wrong because we need competition.

  17. Meatslinger

Between this, poor gaming benchmarks from their newest gen (even *lower* than the one before it) and the chip degradation fiasco, I’m happier every day that I did an AMD upgrade on my core hardware earlier this year.

  18. ZigZagZor

At this point , Intel should sell it’s x86 business AMD and just sell rebranded AMD chips

  19. Strangeman_06

Me who still has an LGA1150 socket

  20. Buying Intel since Ryzen 7000 was released should trigger an intervention.

  21. BuchMaister

    Anyone surprised?

    LGA 1156 – Nehalem & Westmere

LGA 1155 – Sandy bridge & Ivy Bridge

    LGA 1150 – Haswell & Broadwell

LGA 1151 – Skylake, Kaby Lake & Coffee Lake

LGA 1200 – Comet Lake & Rocket Lake

LGA 1700 – Alder Lake, Raptor Lake & Raptor Lake refresh

LGA 1854 Meteor Lake PS, Arrow Lake, (Arrow lake
    Refresh?)

Intel 15+ years always had their socket for 2 or 3 gens, if 3 then one is clock refresh.

  22. RobTheDude_OG

Aaaand this is why i stick to AM5 when it comes to future proofing

  23. sachiel1462

At this point they should name their sockets LGA 2025, 2026 etc… It will be easier.

  24. SuperSonicGamer29_YT

Because of this, I’m glad I switched from LGA 1155 to AM4.

  25. michaelbelgium

Hasn’t it been always like this? Intel sockets only last 2 years, since AM4 intel hasn’t been a choice for longevity (and that’s been how many years now?)

  26. Evantaur

And here I just slapped a new 5xxx series CPU to an ancient cheap ass motherboard bought from Moses eons ago and all it needed was a bios update.
