Star Wars: XCOM from a new developer, with Respawn support, published by EA. I’m interested, but won’t get automatically excited considering new developers, no matter how talented and experienced, don’t always knock it out of the park on their first attempt.

I am thoroughly underwhelmed by both the cinematic and the in-game footage.
But hey, if the gameplay is good, it’s all that matters.

another stain on the star wars name we want kotor

Im guessing respawn is just handling the graphics.. Never heard of Bit Reactor but this is from their about page:
“We collectively developed some of the most successful games you’ve heard of, such as **XCOM**, **Civilization**, **Gears of War**, and **Elders Scrolls Online**.”

Conceptually? Hell fucking yes. I’ve been chasing that XCOM hit for nearly a decade now. We’ll see how it actually plays.

Stoked for this, it “should” be very hard to get wrong.

I just learned now that this takes place in the Clone Wars, not the Galactic Civil War.

I hope this is good, I’ve wanted an Xcom style Star Wars game for a while.

Imagine a modern Star Wars game not set in the most annoyingly overused era in the timeline

I like xcom2 WotC, I like jedi fallen order/survivor, I’m looking forward to this!

Really, really looking forward to this one… but a 2026 release date? I think it’s a bit early to be announcing it. The hype will be long gone by the time that comes around.

So, how many of y’all hope we can just make a clone squad? Or a Mando fireteam?
I wonder if they are going to make it more like XCOM, with faceless grunts with some named characters, or they have a solid team of characters that you can spec out in limit ways like Rogue Trader or Crimea squad.
I hope the game can be modded. I can totally see people making custom squads.

I’m excited for this but it would’ve been better served in the high republic era. I’ve had enough of the clone wars. :/

It sounds good. But the problem I think all Star Wars products have had under Disney so far is that most people don’t want to play as or see these game’s original characters or ones off the new stuff Disney. With the exception of Baby Yoda plushes and car stickers. They want the characters they know and love. Luke, Vader, Han, Leia. Even Anakin and clone troopers. Obi-Wan and Palpatine. If this was the classic characters or clone war stuff with known people. This would be a hit I think. As is? Eh I wouldn’t bet on it.
It’s like that whole argument some make about Star Wars being this whole giant unexplored universe. So why are we only ever following this one family and group of friends and space wizards who fight with laser swords? To which I say, yeah, because that’s what people want to see. Sure you could make some political thriller about tax credits on some mining moon a thousand years before anything we’ve seen and not have a single lightsaber or talk of Jedi in it. It may even be good. But who the hell cares. That’s not what I or most people want to see from Star Wars.
