Picked up Far Cry 6 for the first time after avoiding it due to the bad press/reception. Was instantly sold on it when the game let me have a pet alligator

I dunno, being able to just helicopter everywhere on an Ubisoft map to check off locations wasn’t the move.
All of the Far Crys are playable but they’re kinda gamer fast food
ChaosLives68
It was honestly one of my favorite FC games gameplay wise. It just feels nice and the characters are good. But I love all of those damn games.
vivifafa2000
I actually really had fun with this game but I did play it on PC and modded it to be more fun from what I remember. I can’t really imagine playing modern Ubisoft games unmodded now. Don’t let bad press stop you from enjoying a game you enjoy and that goes for any game really.
KingZag1337
The good thing about this game is, it’s Far Cry. The bad thing about this game is, it’s Far Cry.
CrimsonGear80
it got bad press/reception? it scored and sold well.
“gamers” auto-hating it because it’s ubisoft and far cry don’t count.
marponsa
i know this is a dumb reason to not play the games but i genuinely dropped both far cry 5 and 6 when i discovered they lacked the radio towers
idk why but the radio towers really tied the far cry experience together for me and without them it just feels empty
personman000
I love his little shirt

El Guapo is best boy.
Though Chicharron was always my favorite.
lifestop
I loved playing it with my nephew. Fun coop, but the story wasn’t as good as 3. Well, even 3 had a whatever stort, but the VILLAIN was so damn good!
It’s exactly what you would expect from another FC game. People hate on it too hard.
SHORT-CIRCUT
FC6 honestly was a decent game but not a good *Far Cry* game tbh
tequilasauer
IMO, it’s the worst Far Cry…….and I still enjoy the hell out of it.
I know every criticism of this series and I think those criticisms are absolutely valid. But for “shut your brain off and have fun” action, these games just do it for me, every time. The loop is a blast for me and I have not yet gotten tired of them.
LostRequiem1
I never got around to finishing it, but I had fun with Far Cry 6.
That said, I think a big part of why is because I wasn’t suffering from Far Cry/Ubisoft fatigue. I played FC6 for the first time in 2023, and the last time I touched the franchise before then was 2017 with FC Primal.
It genuinely felt new to me.
DefaultingOnLife
I bounced off it but am playing through it now. Its fun but the tone is all over the place. Fuck Castillo
lolheyaj
It was a lot of fun throughout the game. Hanglider go-kart is peak farcry. The ending kinda fizzled out compared to prior more bombastic endings.
Guess it’s kinda hard to top a nuke drop though.
CyranoDeBurlapSack
A pet…. What? Sold.
Ginn_and_Juice
Farcry 6 is great if you don’t play ubisoft games at all, if you’re familiar with the formula of open world collectaton it will get old, fast.
gbonesti
CONO!
foxalivethepony
I think it’d be immensely fun in coop. But otherwise I’m all tired of farcrys for now
fishlipz69
It’s wicked,
YaBaconMeCrazyMon
It the same game as the last 4 but reskinned, that’s how I see the far cry series. If it’s your first one, you’ll enjoy it, if it’s your second or third, you’ll find yourself getting bored of it fast.
I think far cry is about the environment, if you enjoy running around “Cuba” or the “DR”then you’ll love 6, if you enjoy the mountains of Montana, then you’ll love 5, if you love being a cave man, then Primal is your game.
I think they all just depend on the player. I remember 4 was my first one and I absolutely loved it, still think it’s a good game and they all are, but the mechanics and gameplay loop repeat for all of them.
Acrelorraine
The ending of 5 annoyed me so much that I ended up not picking up the expansions after or 6. I’ve mostly forgotten whatever gripes I’ve had in the meantime. Except for the forced capture sequences. I don’t think I will ever forget those pointless interruptions by plot while I’m trying to accomplish something else.
Opening_Echo_4989
The game looks pretty; I’ll give it that, but FC6 gameplay for me was the worst of the series.
I think Far Cry 4 has the most fun gameplay loop! It feels like surviving out in complete wilderness, and you have to move and engage with awareness. The enemies are much smarter and the dynamics between them bring fun challenges. Like running away from Rhinos while there is a gunfight happening while the rhinos are running around flipping cars! Then add tigers, bears, eagles and everything else going on, paired with the exotic and amazingly crafted environment, and interesting cultural aspects and it just hits right.
Far Cry 6 went *waaay* too far down the arcade isle, in my opinion and lacked what gave the older games appeal.
I don’t mean to dunk on 6, but I hope they can revitalize the franchise to something as fun as the older games were.
I hear they may be moving on from Dunia Engine and the new Far Cry games may be on Snowdrop Engine. The Division 2 is on that, and the open world events and activities felt much smoother, with a much larger area of activity to make it feel more immersive. It seems like a promising change!
If it happens to be true, I hope the next Far Cry will be as good as the best ones, but next gen!
electric_kool_AIDS
Chorizo, the disabled wiener dog, is my personal favorite
JohnnyJayce
I did the same like a month ago. I put probably 20 hours in it. Didn’t care a single bit about the story, didn’t even finish it. The gameplay was really the thing keeping me interested. Finally a game (besides Cyberpunk) where running around is actually fast paced and FUN.
stutesy
I’ve always liked that far cry doesn’t take itself seriously. Load up a game with a friend and just have fun. It’s not going to win any awards, but I’ve enjoyed just about every far cry I’ve played.
Federal_Second5223
Just play the game for yourself stop letting others dictate choices for you..its the stupidest thing.
VorpalisRabbitus
I actually missed the skill tree from older Far Crys, tbh.
Magnus_Helgisson
I liked it more than I did the 5. Idk, probably because I watched Narcos right before and I wanted some of that Latin American guerilla stuff. Made a solid marksman build there and enjoyed. Plus, it has tanks. Plus, that “Bella Ciao” mission is pure cinema.
Fffire24
I remember being shocked when I found the stranger things mission.
amo-del-queso
No one seems to have mentioned it but i got the game after seeing that the main character can sing along to the radio, that’s something you don’t really see outside scripted events and it shows they actually cared for the setting.
Sadly, i played the latam dub (which i had to kinda force to load it kept giving me peninsular/spaniard spanish instead), and while it is amazingly localized (they use a ton of different accents and slang, yet another thing you don’t ever get), they did not have the singing translated and removed it.
Pretty good game regardless!
Timely-Day-5104
The original Far Cry is what I started pc gaming with, I will always love the series
vSpooKy
It was a fun game granted I hadn’t played one since 3 so that might have been why I enjoyed it more
narot23-666
It’s a fun game. The series really kinda peaked with 3 and they’ve recycled and mixed up elements since then; but I’ve enjoyed them all. Not expecting the world just some good shooting and a big map to explore.
Sakkami
Not gonna lie the best farcry is the first one.
noise-tank20
I enjoyed the game I didn’t understand the hate
A thing I kept hearing was “it’s just more farcry” well… yeah it’s a farcry game you come here to get that type of gameplay
mark_is_a_virgin
I uninstalled it the moment I learned that it puts you in 3rd person at the camps and you cant disable it. I’m a huge baby
Tenchi1128
its a ok game
pedant69420
i loved that game, but the lack of option to reset all outposts like in fc5 killed the game. they insisted on their GaaS bullshit and only reset like 3 outposts a week. in fc5 i used to reset them all and do them all in a night for a couple days in a row.
GhostsOfWar0001

35 years gaming and I’ll never understand people only trusting reviews, or “bad press.”
InfiniteRelapse01
On PS5, the game drove me nuts with the FOV being way zoomed in. I felt like I was playing with binoculars on. It would have been fine on PC but there is no FOV slider on console unfortunately
Oc70b3r
One of the worst games I have ever played. But you better believe I finished it because I bought it.
Glad someone can have fun with it

Pets are immune to friendly fire. Strap explosives on them and sick them on enemies. Good times.
Laithani
It’s a good game, but not a masterpiece, for a hefty discount is very worth it.
Just wish Esposito had more screen time.
FartFlavoredLollipop
6 was the first Far Cry I didn’t finish, and it was entirely because of how every fucker in the game pronounced guerilla.
I could not fucking stand how you’d be talking to a person, they’d be speaking plain, unaccented, boring ol’ english, but then they fire off a ***goorEEya*** out of fucking nowhere.
Absolutely drove me up the goddamned wall.
