I remember when I wandered into an enlistment office in 2004, thinking I was a college drop out and life was gonna suck.

Well, life did suck for a little bit.  But then it got pretty awesome.  And now I get a check for the rest of my life.

Boot camp sucks choom; you’re gonna be sleep deprived, yelled at, and pushed to your breaking point.  But you get through it.  You learn to survive.  You graduate.

Just imagine ole Johnny there by your side making fun of you.  You’re about to go on quite the adventure.  Just take it as it comes, and stay strong.  And do NOT, do fucking NOT go out with your wimpy ass E-1 paycheck and incur a shit load of debt.  NO DEBT.  Do you hear me?  Just promise yourself that and you’ll be okay.

Keep your head down. Stay in the middle of the pack, and just get through the training. There will be a time for you to shine and let them see your true quality, but boot camp ain’t it. (source: retired Marine, been there and done that) Best of luck, choom.

PS: if you want to get washed out and go home, but with no self respect, wet your bed every night. Had a guy in my platoon do that, was gone in a week and a half. The military really has a hard-on for clean sheets.

Best advice: do what you are told, don’t stand out too much being the best/worst, speak clearly and be confident. It’s not impossible. You’ll get a Navy Fed bank account while you are there. Put money into the savings account and and open a credit card that works for you and build your credit if you don’t already have some. Good luck choom. Rah
