Per CNN just 15 mins ago… PC stuff are now exempt?

https://www.cnn.com/2025/04/12/tech/trump-electronics-china-tariffs/index.html

Electronics imported to the United States will be exempt from President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs, according to a US Customs and Border Protection notice posted on Friday.

Smartphones, computer monitors and various electronic parts are among the exempted products. The exemption applies to products entering the United States or removed from warehouses as early as April 5, according to the notice.

Woohoo, go BUY IT ALL!

"Counterpoint Research, a firm that monitors global smartphone shipments, estimated Apple has up to six weeks of inventory in the United States. Once that supply runs out, prices are expected to go up."

And all it took was a million-dollar dinner?

  2. unknownloser54321

No Tariffs for us *today*. This administration is so incredibly unpredictable (and I’m trying to be nice) that it’s just a question of “what’s next” that will supersede any “oh it won’t happen even though he said it would” relief

  3. RandomGuy622170

Don’t worry, the orange orangutan will reverse course again next week. “Art of the (Shitty) Deal”

  4. logan2231993

Maybe someone here would know. This would include the switch 2 yeah?

  5. reeefur

Jensen paid him off for us, so do we all thank Nvidia now? 😂 What a weird world we live in.

  6. Unique-Opening1335

Sooooo.. where are the AMAZING, but very CHEAP graphic cards now then??

  7. BaconHammer9000

    give it a day.

    he will flip flop

  8. bakuonizzzz

It only says latest tariffs it doesn’t say anything about existing tariffs correct me if i’m wrong but that shouldn’t include the aluminum tariff that already went through right? Also the section 301 exemption last submission date was march 31st so i don’t think any other parts that come into the US can request for this exemption until May 31st right? unless he doesn’t plan to extend this exemption law.

  9. LordTotoro96

Holy fuck this is getting old, I can see why people wanna leave the US.

Why can’t 1 of the idiots just stick to something besides fucking over the less fortunate and people who don’t act think or look like them?

  10. Evil_Kittie

so this looks to only apply to the latest tariff hike, not all previous ones (unless they had a prior exemption)

this is based on the wording of the offical doc from the gov

  11. Kougeru-Sama

Until he changes his mind in a few days

  12. ThenExtension9196

Except he may reverse it and tariff consumer electronics 1,000% in a week or two. What even is going on man.

  13. MrCleanRed

Does electronics include chips and laptops?

  14. thereIsAHoleHere

Counterpoint: don’t go buy it all. The prices of everything else are still going up, and you still need to be able to afford the other stuff as well.

  15. 0verstim

Dont worry, it will change again tomorrow

  16. flynryan692

Will we see GPU prices go back down closer to MSRP? No, no we will not. That only exposes the fact that they’ve been increasing prices under the cover of tariffs though.

  17. ChronoTravisGaming

China won the tariff war, but the instability probably won’t be good for prices anyway.

  18. Fatigue-Error

Maybe. Maybe not. He keeps changing his mind about things every day, maybe every hour.

  19. Early-Somewhere-2198

Depends. Raw materials still will be taxed right.

  20. Darkone539

Things are wild, this is changing day by day is i wouldn’t celebrate.

  21. Sea-Requirement-2662

The country is being run by toddlers

  22. waytoosecret

Meanwhile in EU we’re discussing better trade with China. I’m looking forward to lower prices.

  23. Mystikalrush

Not a chance, the millisecond AIBs could increase their prices, first week of February, they 1000% did it, even if it wouldn’t impact them. They all used it as a crutch, an “in” to make it look legitimate.

  24. Of course not. They rely on other countries too much for that so it would be too expensive for them

  25. Prices won’t go down now that theyve seen people will still pay these outrageous prices.

  26. myironlung6

Semis and adjacent products were always exempt, people can’t read and hedge funds need the market to pump so they pay shit journalism like Bloomberg and Reuters to create new articles with old news

  27. ZBLongladder

Good news for me, just bought an Ethernet card for my Apple iiGS (yes, people make shit like that for vintage computers), and it’s coming from China so I was prepared to eat a 145% tariff.

  28. fuzzy_thighgap

An i reading this wrong because it clearly says the exemption is only for items that were exported/imported before April 5

  30. ILLmurphy

Just seen. 9070 XT for 1150 I don’t think they care for tariffs they added the price increase

  31. Nathan_hale53

The materials used to create them will be rising, so no, we will still be affected. No one ever thinks of the process to create just about anything.

  32. nootropicMan

This is the list of categories the CBP published that is exempt:

  33. PhoenixKing14

Companies are so mad they can’t jack up the price and blame tariffs. They’ll probably do it anyway

  34. WildMartin429

I’m going to bet that companies that aren’t even affected by the tariffs we’ll start putting tariff surcharges on purchases

  35. Takeasmoke

“sir, US govt pulled tariffs from our products”
    “alright”
    “so reverting to old prices”
“what old prices, it was always 20% more expensive than a month ago”

  36. the_maestrC

Lol, they think prices will be better now.

  37. n19htmare

9070xt and most all video cards kept selling at at much higher prices.

They have zero incentive to bring down prices. ZERO.

  38. sdcar1985

If anything, they’ll still raise prices, blame tarrifs, and rake in massive profits. Not sure if it’s illegal, but I’m sure it won’t stop them lol.

  39. Ropersx

And I bet even if this happens gpu will still keep there price increases because of tariffs they are not going to lower it back to msrp

  40. Anti_Up_Up_Down

No additional tariffs for PC. But component tariffs may apply – aluminum etc

  41. AlludedNuance

This is why I made all of my major purchases in the months before inauguration.

  42. Hiimjose

You would think if this was the case they would’ve said so the first time they announced it. They’re making shit up as it goes

  43. Techguyeric1

Give it a few days and PC parts will have a 500% tariff because sweet potato shitler is a fucking giant baby
